A bookstore full of cute cats and kittens to adopt has gone viral on social media.

Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee, in Nova Scotia, Canada, allows customers to pop in for a drink and read a book in a cosy corner while fluffballs roam freely.

In a chat with Narcity, the store’s owner, Ellen Helmke, revealed that she typically has ‘several kittens and usually a mama cat as well’.

It all started as a creative way to get potential pet owners to take the next step and give a cat its forever home.

Otis & Clementine’s teamed up with the South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia rescue group to try out the project and so far, 30 cats have reportedly been adopted through it.

Helmke added: “All the kittens are in and out fairly quickly, as they are adopted.”

In another interview with Global News, the owner revealed that the response to the initiative has been ‘great,’ commenting: “People come here specifically to see the cats, and then some people just wander in to look at books and discover there are kittens.

“Either way, the response has been really great – I mean, who doesn’t love kittens, right? I’m so happy to make my customers happy when they come in and they’re just thrilled to see a kitten they weren’t expecting… It’s amazing and makes me happy to come to work.”

For anyone who is interested in adopting one of the cats or kittens, all they have to do is provide a reference that shows they’re reliable.

So it’s the best possible match, it’s not based on a first come first served basis but rather who is the best match for the fluffball.
