Aldi has launched several types of pigs in blankets over the festive season, but they’ve not stopped yet, having recently unveiled their newest pigs in blankets which contain the world’s second hottest chilli!
German supermarket Aldi is taking a twist on the usual Christmas dinner by offering shoppers pigs in blankets that contain the world’s second hottest chilli. It may not be traditional but it certainly puts a hot twist on the occasion!
Best served to only the bravest of diners, the ‘scorpion’ pigs in blankets contain Trinidad Scorpion Chilli, this is nine times hotter than Bird’s Eye chilli and until very recently was ranked as the spiciest pepper in the world.
On the Scoville Heat Uni (SHU), which is the global measure of how spicy food is, the Trinidad Scorpion Chilli scored a shocking of 2,009, 231. In comparison, Tabasco sauce ranks at around 2,500-5,000 SHU, with Sriracha earning a score of 1000-2,500.
Red Tractor approved, the sausage meat and bacon are in a ready-made dish and comes from 100 per cent British pork.
Explaining the reasoning behind the extra spicy dish, a spokesperson stated: “Tired of having the same traditional pigs in blankets every Christmas? This year Supermarket Aldi is putting a twist on a Christmas classic, giving you that extra bit of fire on your tongue that you didn’t know that you needed?”
This product has come after Femail revealed shoppers could be the cutting the cost of their shopper by half each shop, as the supermarket has a ‘bargain hour’ which begins at the start of the day.
The reductions can vary from shop to shop, but typically it is within the first hour of the day – so make sure to keep an eye out for your stores local opening hours.
Many shoppers are not aware of this ‘bargain hour’ because typically, supermarkets do their discounts at the end of the day, rather than the beginning.
So shoppers should be able to head to the store around 8 am, which is usually the quietest part of the day, and grab the best bargains.
However, the exception to this is Sundays when the store doesn’t open till later. The bonus to this is that shoppers get a few extra hours of sleep before heading to the shops around 10 am!
On sale from November 28, the spicy pigs in blankets will cost £2.29 a pack.
If this sounds too spicy for you, why don’t you check out Aldi’s halloumi pigs in blankets?
