Amir Khan hasn’t had an easy time in the eyes of the media over the past few weeks, after being trolled online for reportedly ‘bullying’ fellow I’m A Celebrity campmate Iain Lee. Now, he is currently being slammed by social media followers for choosing to put up a Christmas tree.
Amir shared a photo of his decorated tree on Instagram to his 1.2 million followers, however, some fans were left outraged by his choice of joining in the festivities.
He told followers that he was excited to celebrate the build-up of Christmas for the sake of his three-year-old daughter Lamaisah.
He captioned the photograph: While everyone’s asleep, daddy put the Christmas tree up. Lamaisah’s going to be happy. Christmas #MerryChristmas2017.”
While there seems no harm in his actions, some followers were outraged that Amir was going against his devout Muslim religion by celebrating the Christian tradition – with some even as going as far as to send worrying death threats towards his family.
One disgusting troll wrote: “I promise to God i want to kill you and your family amir.”
“Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas. It’s one thing to give out cards at school your respecting other faith and their celebration but putting up a tree in your own home….poor kid will be well confused.” another added.
“How could he betray religion like that.” another fuming follower commented.
Amir has always been very public about his pride for his Muslim religion and once commented that the mosque was his ‘favourite place to go’.
According to The Sun, Amir once said: “I am not afraid of saying I am a Muslim. I think some people would be scared to say that they are Muslim, especially during the current time, but I am a proud Muslim.
“There are a lot of good Muslims out there who are against terrorism, who are against, you know, people killing each other.”
However, what many may not realise is that Jesus is still part of the Muslim religion, in which he is recognised as a prophet.
One follower lept to the defence of Amir, writing: “Unbelievable how cynical everyone is for Daddy Amir who clearly stated that his intention in putting up the tree was to make his daughter happy. His intentions aren’t to attend mass in any church!”
While another also wrote: “Can someone applaud this gentleman for simply working hard as a provider father who has perhaps already set up the nursery and bought tons of gifts for Lamaisah and for the unborn baby.”
“Great to have the few days off to be with family. Sorry to hear you got grief for a tree,” another said.
Another fan commented: “You’re a good man don’t listen to the morons.”
Meanwhile, since departing from Australia, Iain Lee who spent time with Amir in the jungle has stated that he is ‘disappointed’ in his former campmate for the way in which he had been behaving in the camp.
During his appearance on Loose Women today, he told the panellists that he believed Amir had been ‘lying’ to his face on multiple occasions:
“When I came out and there were all these stories of bullying, I don’t class it as bullying. People being slightly mean to me behind my back, I don’t call that bullying.
“I was really disappointed that people had been saying things behind my back about a ‘game plan’ and that I wasn’t trying hard enough. But when you’re in there you do go a bit nuts. Everyone’s hungry. You get so bored. You can have days of doing nothing.
“I have spoken to Becky since. I’ve been speaking to Becky a lot on WhatsApp. I’ve been speaking to Dennis. I haven’t’ spoken to Jamie but we got quite close.” he added.
“The one that disappointed me the most was Amir because I thought Amir and I got quite close. We were talking about going to Pakistan and stuff together and do all of this.
“Then I kind of saw some stuff afterwards where he was actually lying about me, so I was disappointed by that. But I’ve got no beef with any of them.”
Amir was slammed for his aggressive attitude towards Iain during the live final of I’m A Celebrity a few weeks back, in which tensions arose between the pair.
Presenter Scarlett Moffatt asked Iain about his relationship with his fellow campmates before Amir butted in sharpish to get the first word.
The ex- Gogglebox star told the radio DJ that she “loved watching [Jamie’s] bromance with Amir and Dennis” and questioned him on whether the trio would be keeping in touch in the future.
Amir who was sitting with the rest of the evicted campmates immediately shouted across the studio: “Definitely. And Iain. We’re not bullies, we’re not bullies, mate.”
What Amir had failed to realise is that it wasn’t actually Iain who had initially used the term, but the choice of wording used by viewers when witnessing their relationship over the weeks. Sitting in a state of shock, Iain simply replied: “I’ve never used that word. No.”
“Anyway, we’ll talk about that later.” Amir added.
The champion boxer was expected by many to be as tough as nails when faced with jungle critters, however, viewers were taken aback by his cowardly nature. Amir confessed that he had a hard time coping without the support of his family:
Talking to The Sun, he said: ” I appreciate the littlest things. You miss the littlest things in life. You’re away from your family, your friends, your kids and wife and everyone, it’s not easy, it’s very very hard.”
Amir stated that he wishes to make a return to the boxing ring in March 2018 and claims that he had been training every single day whilst in the jungle to get fit for the occasion.
According to The Sun, Amir said: “I am going to fight in March. I was training in the jungle every day, I’m glad I went, it was a detox, I came back and I was in shape. I want to fight in the UK, I think it is time.”
