Ant McPartlin missed his court appearance yesterday and was reportedly ‘told off’ by the judge for his non-attendance.
The 43-year-old presenter was required to attend his very last court hearing last Monday for his divorce to Lisa Armstrong, however, he failed to show up which caused some chaos at the Royal Court of Justice.
Lisa and Ant decided to separate back in January after 11 years of marriage. A spokesperson at the time said: “Ant is very sad to announce, that after 11 years, he is ending his marriage to Lisa McPartlin. Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families. No further statement will be made.”
While another publication statement was made adding that Ant asked for ‘privacy’: “Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families. No further statement will be made.”
The pair are divorcing on grounds of adultery
According to court papers, the pair are divorcing on the grounds of adultery and had been ‘negotiating a final settlement’ when it came to their assets. The papers declared that “the respondent has committed adultery and that the petitioner finds it intolerable to live with the respondent.”
A source said: “Ant admitted adultery as his relationship with Anne-Marie began when they were still married – although they were separated at the time. He was happy to admit to that to try and bring a quick resolution to everything and draw a line under it all. It’s all been very upsetting for all parties and he just wants to move on.”
How much is Ant paying out to Lisa?
While some believe Lisa is keen to get every penny out of Ant that she can get, an insider went on to say that she has been a key component in building Ant’s fortune and deserves some of the cash.
An insider told The Sun on Sunday: “[Lisa] is not motivated by money and she has been focusing on getting through the devastating end of her marriage in one piece. But she has a very strong legal team behind her. Their argument is Lisa has been pivotal to Ant achieving his fortune so she deserves to see some of his future earnings.”
It has been reported that Ant is ready to hand over half of his £60 million fortune to his ex-wife.
A source told The Daily Express: “Ant has agreed that Lisa is going to get half of everything. He was told that he did not have to be there so he was shocked at the judge having a go at him.”
Why didn’t Ant attend court?
Instead of appearing in court yesterday, Ant was snapped taking a walk in the park with his girlfriend, Anne-Marie Corbett and his dog, Hurley whom she shared with Lisa.
Talking to the court, Mr Justin Mostyn announced: “Why is he not here? There isn’t one law for the famous and one for the rest of the community. The rules say he was supposed to be here – and that can be reported. He has been told off.”
Representatives of Ant claimed that he had a perfectly good reason not to be in attendance: “Ant was advised by his media barrister that he didn’t need to attend court today. There was absolutely no intent to disrespect the court.”
Vanessa Lloyd Platt, founder of Lloyd Platt & Co mentioned that it is going to be far easier to split the assets that belonged to both Lisa and Ant than who will take ownership of their dog, Hurley.
Talking to The Mirror Online, Vanessa gave her verdict on what she believed may happen: “Whilst many might laugh at the thought that a divorce case could come down to an argument not only about how the contents of the homes will be split but how the pets will be split, this is a regular occurrence now in matrimonial cases,” said Vanessa.
“In law, pets count as chattels as well and do not have the legal status of children. This means that the Court will for the most part, decide the issues based on who purchased the pet in question.”
Social media reactions
“Coincidental he takes the dog for a walk with new partner and kisses and hugs her for cameras to see on same day of the hearing about who gets the dog?! Won’t half annoy his ex-wife”
“I’m sure he was well advised in what he was to do. The guy is working hard at getting back to good health. I think he’s doing really well under the circumstances, and that they should both be left alone. Divorce isn’t nice for anyone and should be private whoever you are”
“Everyone is commenting on what Lisa had to put up. Does anyone know what he had to put up with?? Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.”
“Didn’t have to be there. Anyway, he is giving her everything she wants she is even making a name from being with him although the names she is known for lately is one she could do without. He has so moved on hope she can do the same. Just please keep out of the media be a bit more like Ant, keep your private life private. Good luck to all involved”.
“Just leave him alone to get well again. He did not need to be there and unlike that woman is trying to stay private”
“He didn’t have to attend, no one does at this stage and neither did she but obviously she did and we all know why. So nice to see him happy and getting rid of that nasty woman it totally shows who had to put up with who all these years.”
“It would have turned into a circus if Ant had turned up he can’t do right for doing wrong, I think he was right”.
