Fans were delighted when Saturday night TV just got a whole lot better, with Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway returning to screens last week.
While the audience at home seemed to be enjoying themselves, many were left wondering how Ant McPartlin and co-presenter Scarlett Moffatt would react to one another after dating rumours hit the headlines.
In recent months, the pair have been hit by media attention regarding an alleged romance, after Ant split from his wife Lisa earlier on in the year.
Rumours first broke out when Scarlett uploaded a selfie to Instagram, with eagle-eyed fans spotting a photograph of the pair on her bedside table.
One follower commented: ‘Look a picture of Scarlett and Ant in the background’, while another remarked: ‘If this is with Ant’ as well as ‘Ant be on the prowl tonight’.
Aiming to hush the rumours of the alleged relationship, Scarlett addressed the claims and stated that the selfie was, in fact, a snap of the two of them on Saturday Night Takeaway – with herself dressed in a Mary Poppins costume for the grand finale in Disneyworld, Florida.
‘The picture is HER dressed as Mary Poppins at probably the most amazing time of her life at Disney and YES Ant AND Dec (her heroes) are in the picture too! I know that picture would have pride of place if that was me! #logicalexplanation#grownuppeople #haterssuck.’ one follower commented.
Although she has admitted that fellow Geordies Ant and Dec are her ‘heroes’; she went on to say that her relationship with the pair is solely professional. Well – that is, apart from the Sunday lunch they share together every week.
Appearing on Comedy Central’s ‘The Chris Ramsey Show’, Scarlett expressed how she and her two co-stars had formed a close bond over the past year, and got to know one another after gaining the title of ‘Queen of the Jungle’ in 2016’s ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’.
Fellow Geordie Chris, questioned Scarlett on how she felt about the sudden fame, asking: ‘What was the moment where you realised this [your life] has gone mega now?’, before she responded: ”like when I go for Sunday dinner with Ant & Dec! We just go for Sunday dinner casually, and they text me!’.
Since becoming a presenter, Scarlett has always paid gratitude to Ant and Dec for their help and support over the past twelve months in the limelight; branding them as her ‘mentors’.
Talking to the MailOnline, she admitted that knowing that they are there for her, has allowed her to progress as a person both on and off camera.
‘They are so amazing,’ she told the newspaper. “They’re genuinely amazing people. They give me the best advice and are always there if I need them. The best advice they’ve ever given me is to be me. I don’t think they knew how much that meant to me.’
‘I think it was the first episode and the fact that they came to me, it’s a huge show to ad lib live on TV that gave me so much confidence.
‘And the fact they tell me all the time to “Keep being you”, that filled me with confidence and I feel like I’m a completely different person to last year.’
‘They’re like the brothers I never had.” she went on to tell The Sun. ‘They’re genuinely lovely, down to earth people who offer me a lot of brilliant career advice.’
Despite the reports of Ant and Scarlett’s blossoming romance, the pair seemed to get on just fine on Saturday night. Ant even spoke very light-heartedly about Scarlett to The Daily Star; recalling the time the former Gogglebox star got involved in an awkward on-air gaffe.
“Last series, Scarlett knocked on a house, live, and we knew the people would be watching the show because they are fans. But they were watching it on catch-up so they didn’t go outside, Scarlett didn’t get to go on site, the dog was barking, the door was locked.
“It all got a little bit uneasy for a while. The fact they weren’t watching us live was a bit of a problem.”
Dec also went on to quip that the live slip-ups are definitely what make the show a success, adding:
‘We always surprise people live on the show, sometimes in their living rooms, and sometimes you get a better reaction than other times. We have had to apologise a few times because people have had such a shock, they didn’t realise what they were saying. That’s always quite a cringe live moment.
“All in all though, when the live moments go wrong, we just get on with it and it becomes right, if you know what I mean. People often say to us, ‘Oh we love your show, the best bit is when it goes wrong’ and you think, ‘Thanks a lot’. But I know what they mean. That’s the fun of live TV.”
Ant also went on to quip: ‘And the fact that there’s two of us helps as well because if one of us gets it wrong, the other one can just laugh at him!’
Scarlett aimed to put an end to the speculation and wrote numerous posts on her social media accounts that she is in a new relationship with a new guy, who she’s apparently known as a friend for over a decade.
The 28-year-old is now dating student and male model Lee Wilkinson, and a source told The Sun that he was very proud to be in attendance at the first live show of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ last weekend.
Lee really wanted to watch Scarlett in action,” the source said.
“She’s got her family and some mates coming to support her too. Lee is so proud of her and can’t wait to see her working her magic on screen.”
The couple seemed extremely ‘loved-up’ on Valentines Day, as Scarlett shared a few soppy photos to Instagram to sum-up their most precious moments as a couple. The caption read: “Happy Valentine’s Day to this little one”.
