Ant and Dec were thrilled to scoop three trophies during Tuesday night’s National Television Awards. The duo most notably won the award for ‘Best Presenter’ which marks their 17th win since 2001. Despite the difficulties that Ant and his wife Lisa have faced over the past year, she still went on to publicly share her pride for his remarkable achievements.
During his acceptance speech, Ant broke down in tears after admitting that 2017 had been an extremely ‘tough year’ after facing a number of personal struggles.
“It’s been quite an emotional night tonight,” he said. “It’s been quite a year. It’s been quite a tough 12 months, so winning this tonight means a lot.”
“I’d personally like to thank my family, my friends – some of who are here tonight. I love you. Thank you very much. And thank you to all of you for your support, it really, really means to me and has helped me get through.”
“Thanks to you, little guy. I love you, man. Let’s not cry.” he added, facing his co-presenter, Dec. “I love working with him and that was the one thing … I had a very tough summer last summer, I had to face up to a lot of things and my one thing was just getting back to work and getting back to work with my best mate, we done it.”
“Most importantly you guys, thank you so much for continuing to enjoy what we do.” he continued. “We love it and we will keep doing this for as long as you want us to, thanks so much.”
Dec also went on to add: “It has been quite the year, but this has really topped it off.
“Thank you so, so much to everybody who’s taken the time to vote for us – it is really, really appreciated, possibly this year more than any other. We thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.”
Ant and Dec also won the Best Challenge Show award for ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ and the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for Saturday Night Takeaway.
Picking up the trophy in honour of the legendary entertainer who passed away last year, Ant said:
“It’s an honour to pick this award up.We started filming for the new series today, so we also filmed a little tribute to Bruce so it feels very, very apt to pick this up.”
Dec also went on to pay tribute to the star, adding: “This one is for you Bruce, we miss you.”
Ant has since claimed he may not be attending next year’s awards show due to the implications it may have on his health.
It’s been heavily publicised that Ant was forced into rehab last summer due to alcohol and prescription drug addiction. Most recently, the presenter also announced that he will be divorcing his wife of 11 years, Lisa Armstrong.
Lisa was reportedly in attendance at the awards show on Tuesday to support Strictly Come Dancing, whom she had been working for as a make-up artist behind-the-scenes.
After the announcement that the show had scooped the prize for Best Talent Show, she tweeted: “Congratulations to all the #NTAs2018 winners, especially @bbcstrictly what an amazing show to be a part of. #proud #Hairandmakeup ??????#StrictlyAteam x” she wrote.

However, it seems Ant’s estranged wife is holding no grudges against her husband, after showing public support for his success.
Taking to Twitter, she ‘liked’ a number of tweets which celebrated Ant and Dec’s three wins, which included a selfie of the pair holding their awards. The photo caption read: “THANK YOU!! To each and every one of you who voted. We are very emotional tonight. You never let us down.”
She also went on to ‘like’ a handful of tweets posted on the NTA’s official Twitter page.
After the ceremony had taken place, one concerned fan tweeted Lisa acknowledge the fact that 2017 was most likely just as tough a year for her, as it has been for her soon-to-be ex-husband.
‘@lisaAmakeup everyone is talking about Ant but just wanted to say you’ve had a tough year as well & I hope you are ok. Congrats on your NTA. Much love x.’ they tweeted before Lisa replied with: Thank you.’
Others also went on to show their concern for Lisa’s well-being by continuing to send messages of positivity:
“I couldn’t agree more.” another wrote. “It was really sad not seeing you sat next to Ant after all these years. Love the amazing make up you and your team do on Strictly. Let’s hope 2018 is a good year for you.”
While another added: ‘Well said, such a shame but unfortunately things like this happen to many of us. Chin up and onwards, happiness will come again.’
Others also went on to add:
‘True. Let’s give credit where it’s due. Congratulations @lisaAmakeup. You made it through 2017. It was tough and stressful, but you did. Wish you nothing but the best in 2018.’
‘Agree wholeheartedly with everything Sarah has said. 2017 was an extremely tough year for you, you are amazing, beautiful and dignified. Hope 2018 brings you love and happiness.’
Lisa later retweeted a quote sent to her from a fan: “Life is going to get hard sometimes. So get the f*** up and get your s*** together. You’re either an ocean or a puddle. Don’t be a puddle. People walk through puddles like they’re nothing. Oceans f****** destroy cities.” it read.
Ant and Lisa officially announced their decision to divorce last week, with a source telling the press that the announcement had been a long time coming due to their personal struggles:
“In response to the recent speculation in the media, Ant is very sad to announce that, after 11 years, he is ending his marriage to Lisa.” they said.
“Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families.”
Ant is reportedly set to part with £31 million within the divorce settlement, while the pair are also at loggerheads as to who will have full custody of their chocolate labrador, Hurley. A source told The Sun: “Ant adores Hurley – he’s like his child – but obviously so does Lisa who calls him ‘my boy”.
“It’s a very sensitive situation because they always thought they would raise him together, but they are currently sharing custody and there will be a formal agreement made in the coming weeks.”
