Asda is on the prowl for a cat to star in their new Christmas advert.
It might seem like a lifetime away, but Christmas is on its way and in their pursuit for the cutest Christmas advert, Asda are searching for a cat to be the feline star of the year.
Instead of scanning the directory of famous cats, Asda wants to find a new furry face to put on the scene. The supermarket has had tons of cats and cat owners queuing down the street, in the hopes of bagging the role of a lifetime, Mr Grumbles.
The supermarket is looking for a cat that has that something extra, who can act both “grumpy and sullen” and “jubilant and joyous” on command.
Asda has not specified what type of cat they are looking for, being open to cats of all breeds, ages and size. Which means they’ve had a varied bunch turn up for the casting call, including large Maine Coons to adorable little kittens.
As long as the owner believes they’re up to the job, any cat is welcome to try out.
Vice President of Creative and Media at Asda, Eilidh Macaskill said in regards to the campaign: “We want to make this Christmas the most extra special Christmas yet, so we’re pulling-out all stops to ensure we bring a little magic to screens, with the help of Mr Grumbles.”
This advert could be your cat’s big break, with previous Christmas ads by the brand having launched their lead characters into the limelight.
At the auditions, many cats were pictured with their eager owners, rehearsing their miaows to perfection to impress the producers.
Many cats were pictured wearing leads, whilst others stayed in their cages to avoid the press that could potentially be their nemesis in the months to come.
The ad director will choose Mr Grumbles after looking through the hundreds of headshots which are taken from the casting calls and posts people have submitted via social media. The feline chosen will have to possess the essence that makes Mr Grumbles comes to life.
It appears that Asda are definitely the company to audition for, especially when they’ve always been on top of their Christmas adverts, last year being one of the first brands to offer up festive adverts.
Their 2018 advert, titled Bring Christmas Home, told the story of Santa launching a flaming Christmas pudding into the air, with dancing skiers and snow covered mountains making a picturesque background.
