A Big Brother star has made a personal attack on presenters of the Channel 5 show, Emma Willis and Rylan Clark-Neal before the big finale on Monday night.
Channel 5 broke the news that the show was set to be axed back in September by making a public statement: “The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last – of either celebrity or civilian versions – on Channel 5. We’d like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success.
“We’d also like to thank our brilliant presenters – Emma on Big Brother and Rylan from Bit on the Side – for their consummate professionalism, Marcus, the voice of Big Brother and all of the housemates who have created so many memorable moments.”
The channel reported that they would be saying goodbye to both the celebrity and civilian versions of the show for the final time upon deciding to stop renewing the contract.
Emma Willis breaks down live on air during Big Brother finale
It seemed the 42-year-old presenter couldn’t hide her emotions whilst presenting Monday night’s show, in which she broke down during her message of thanks. At the very end of the show which marked the final few minutes of the Big Brother journey, Emma spoke to the camera:
“Thank you to the 300 plus production team that work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring you our very special show. To Davina [McCall], Marcus, and Brian, who have paved the way as hosts. To all of the Big Brother housemates that have taken part over the last 18 years, and to all of you at home.
“Whether you’ve been here for the long haul, or you’ve recently climbed on board, with you, we would never have lasted 18 years.”
The audience could be heard chanting “Emma” and her voice cracked slightly as she finished her speech.
“But most of all, thank you to Big Brother for being the best big brother to me. Like any sibling, he has made me laugh uncontrollably, scream in frustration, and weep with sadness and joy. I will love you always, but it’s time now for this house to hopefully find a new home. Thank you so much for watching.”
Although Channel 5 have dropped the show, producers are still trying to find a new home for the reality series, so fans have a glimmer of hope that it may not be the end of the road just yet.
After the show closed, Emma joined Rylan on Bit on the Side in which they both shared their emotional goodbyes.
“It’s surreal. It just doesn’t … I dunno. I just can’t imagine not being here.” she said, but went on to say that she’s very much looking forward to a relaxing holiday in January, seeing as though the next series won’t be going ahead.
“Shall we go on holiday in January? Let’s spend a month on holiday.” she asked Rylan, before he replied: “Let’s go away. We’ll still meet up every Friday, we can do evictions from my garden. I’m up for it, I’m so up for it.”
Big Brother star SLAMS Emma and Rylan
Just hours before the final show went live on Monday, 2007 Big Brother winner Brian Belo made some slanderous remarks toward Emma and Rylan, stating they are “fooling everybody into thinking they’re the most famous people in the world” and that he’s glad the show is set to finish.
Speaking to The Metro, he said: “Emma and Rylan just absolutely drive me insane. They fool everybody into thinking they’re the most famous people in the world.”
He suggested that they cannot be compared to Davina McCall who hosted the show when it aired on Channel 4 and Dermot O’Leary who fronted Big Brother’s Little Brother until 2008.
“Dude, seriously these people aren’t Dermot and Davina,” he added. “I don’t mean to be nasty but I’ve seen Davina do interviews and I’ve been in the same room as Dermot doing his thing, and they don’t struggle when reading off an autocue.”
He even went as far as to brand Rylan as “annoying”.
“He’s from X Factor as well, that’s what’s even more embarrassing. That’s why it’s getting axed, because a novelty contestant is actually running Big Brother. It’s like the lunatics running the asylum.”
Social media reactions
“Doesn’t matter where you rise up from. Rylan is a really good presenter… what precisely is Brian achieving.. apart from the ability to sound a tad bitter …”
“Not very often I defend celebrities but Emma and Ryan are the best at presenting big brother that lad has no idea what he is talking about.”
“I love Emma and Rylan and I think that are brilliant at hosting the to shows it’s so sad that it’s come to an end we will miss you both and good luck to you both (bring back Big Brother)”.
“Emma’s parting words on the main show were from the heart she loves big brother and felt honoured to present it. So did Rylan. So shut up Brian you made a name for yourself by acting thick is that really an achievement”.
“Going to miss BB and BBBOTS, not everyone’s cup of tea I know but it’s a funny world where we don’t all like the same things, it’s what makes the world go round! Rylan and Emma I have loved as presenters and enjoyed this last series the most, not sure I would have called Brian a legend though”.
“Fantastic presenters Emma and Rylan great personalities. Think Brian is licking his wounds because he didn’t really make it as big name as a Big Brother presenter.”
“Brian Who? I think that’s actually him trying to get publicity – Davina & Dermot were good in their day but show needed a new younger generation as times changed & Emma & Rylan much as they annoy me at times were just themselves & let contestants be themselves too who cares if they get autocue wrong shows, it’s live & they can take mickey out of themselves”.
