Police have confirmed that they are ‘dealing with an incident’ at London Bridge, where according to witnesses gunshots have been heard.
Detectives have said that they are in the early stages of dealing with an incident as scenes show panicked civilians leave the scene.
According to a BBC reporter, John McManus, who was in the area, said that there was the sound of two gunshots which appear to have been fired by police officers.
He claimed: “Just a few minutes ago I was walking across the London Bridge on the south bank to the north bank of the bridge.
“There appeared to be a fight going on on the other side of the bridge, with several men attacking one man.
“Police then quickly arrived, including armed police, and then a number of shots were fired at this man.”
John added: “Police have now cleared the bridge, everybody has been told to move back and now on the northern side of the bridge, but there are more shots going on.”
According to The Independent, a witness who works locally claims they saw a body bag being carried away from the scene.
Twitter user, Amanda Hunter, was on a nearby bus at the time of the incident, recorded a video of the aftermath.
One photograph on Twitter shows a truck parked across the road, which is surrounded by police cars and armed officers.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “We are in the early stages of dealing with an incident at London Bridge.
“Please follow @metpoliceuk for updates. If you are near the scene, please follow the directions of any officer on the ground.”
