Although everyone loved Hary Redknapp in the jungle, many believe he’s sort-of let himself down just hours after being crowned king. How? In the space of just 48 hours?!
It seems his slightly risky remarks on his fellow camp mate and runner-up Emily Atack which he made during his exit interview yesterday have caused a huge uproar, when it came to discussing her appearance.
Just one day after being considered as one of the most-loved celebrities on the show, the public are already starting to change their minds on him.
Whilst in the jungle, Emily made her interest in Harry’s son Jamie Redknapp quite clear and asked whether she would have any chance with him. She claimed that she would be “a great daughter in law” and Harry seemed to agree.
“Imagine, Emily Redknapp, I would make a really good daughter in law” she told him before Harry added that she would make a ‘fantastic addition’ to their family.
She later made her way to the Bush Telegraph and jokingly made a ‘call me’ sign in the hope that Jamie might catch onto the hints and go on a date with her when she returned back to England.
When Harry came out of the jungle and was asked the truth about his thoughts on Emily, his comment’s on her appearance did come as a shock.
Talking on Good Morning Britain today, Harry said: “I’ll be honest, when I saw her in the jungle I thought no chance. But when I seen her today all scrubbed up and she looks alright I’m telling ya,” he said.
“She looks very youthful, she looks good so I think yeah.”
“I saw her in the jungle and thought she hasn’t got a prayer. Today she looked fantastic.”
The star even admitted that he didn’t even recognise Emily with her make-up on when they met up again.
He jokingly added: “I went, “Who are you?” and she said, “I was in the jungle with you”. And, “I said I don’t even recognise you.”‘
Upon leaving the jungle, Emily went on to admit that her biggest fear amongst the critter and bushtucker trials was baring herself to reveal her makeup-less face and natural hair and freckles.
Talking to Holly and Dec before the winner was announced, the Inbetweeners actress said: “This place has given me such self-acceptance. I worry about things constantly. I’ve learned to accept who I am”.
So, there’s no doubt she will be slightly crushed by Harry’s true thoughts on her natural appearance.
In her own exit interview, Emily discussed her keen interest in Jamie, after she quizzed his father in the jungle about whether the newly divorced 45-year-old was single.
“I am sure if he had seen me in action over the last few weeks he might not be up for it. But I’ve got my make up on now, so he might be!” she said.
Jamie Redknapp breaks silence on whether he will date Emily Atack
What everyone wants to know though – is what are Jamie’s thoughts on all of this?
Despite being questioned on his initial thoughts surrounding Harry and Emily’s chat, he refused to give very much away as to what would happen when the actress returned home.
Talking to The Sun, he said: “She’s so sweet in the programme.”
”It was such a nice conversation and I thought ‘all right dad, where are you going with this one? It was funny the way she handled it afterwards, it did make me laugh.
“He’s like Tinder in there, dad is isn’t he?”
Appearing on talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Breakfast show, Jamie was questioned by one of his former teammates, Dean Saunders on which option was more likely to happen – for Liverpool to win the Champions League this season; or that he will take Emily out on a date.
Despite the straight-to-the-point question, Jamie simply answered: “Ah come on Deano. Leave it out…Listen, she’s a very nice girl, isn’t she? Let’s leave it at that.”
Social media reactions
Many fans were extremely angered by Harry’s comments and many went on to address the issue on their social media accounts; whilst there were some who stood his corner and believed he was simply ‘joking’:
“I honestly find it disgusting that Harry Redknapp said on GMB that Emily Atack had no chance with his son Jamie because of what she looked like without make, but now he’s seen her with it on she looks “useful”.
“Harry Redknapp’s comments about Emily’s chances with his son based on her looks with/without makeup have made me reassess my liking of him. Not a very nice thing to say about someone who’s supposed to be a friend either.”
“Come off it everyone. He’s having a joke. Emily even said yesterday, Jamie wait until you see me all scrubbed up with my make up on! It’s just pure banter. She’s beautiful with or without makeup.”
“I think he probably meant now she has had a shower, washed her hair and got some normal clothes on. He never said anything about her putting makeup back on”
“Am I the only one who thinks she looks completely different without makeup? She must wear a serious amount of makeup to not see a single freckle in any pictures. Without it, she looks like a normal, pretty girl. I’m just fascinated it’s like two different people!”
“He deserved to win and this interview was hilarious!!! He’s not saying anything to be nasty he just says it how it is. I doubt if Emily was offended by his comments so why should anyone else be??”
“I thought it was a little sort of tongue remark But its just Harry’s sense of humour lol But it could have backfired had she not taken it on the chin with a laugh”
