Holly Willoughby sparked a bit of controversy when she appeared on This Morning this week during a live wedding that was featured on the show.
The couple named Shane and Sarah tied the knot after a search was launched by ITV to find a deserving couple who had always dreamed of having the perfect wedding. The couple who are parents to 10-month-old Evelyn had in fact been together for 14 years before deciding to become husband and wife and got engaged 4 years ago in Las Vegas.
The ceremony was led by Claire Bedford, as Holly and Phil sat on the front row beaming with delight for their special guests. Other This Morning presenters including Alison Hammond and Lisa Snowdown were also in attendance to keep a eye on the couple before the ceremony began, as well as greeting the couple’s friends and family.
The couple and their families had travelled all the way from Hull to the Royal Albert Hall in London to attend the big day.
The bride walked down the aisle to All of Me by John Newman and after tying the knot, they had their first dance to Lovely Day – performed by the incredible Kingdom Choir – who gained worldwide attention when they sang at Harry and Meghan’s wedding back in May.
Shane said his own personal vows to Sarah: ‘As we join our lives together, let us vow to live in truth… to ride lives waves and conquer all that is in store for us.’
Sarah then said: ‘My soulmate, my friend, my love…you are the one I want to share all my adventures with… I promise to always be there for you. I promise to show you, unending love, because love is all we need.’
The happy couple seemed once they had made their marriage official.
When asked about his feelings of the day, Shane said: ‘Seeing her for the first time she was beautiful… The choir stated me off I was in bits. I went inside the venue I can’t explain the feeling. It will be 14 years in December we’ve been together and this is what she deserves.’
While Sarah also added: ‘It’s surreal its everything I’ve ever wanted. I was trying to concentrate on walking down the steps. But I wanted to look around and seeing that for the first time was just beautiful.’
It was later revealed that the couple had taken part in an official ceremony in private the day before, but the gathering at the Royal Albert Hall was simply a celebration in the company of loved ones.
Holly gave the happy couple some words of advice once they had made their vows official: ‘Pace yourself, enjoy it… remember all those small moments… it goes so fast. I know it’s a cliché but it’s one of the best days of your life;, before saying to Sarah: “Make sure you have comfortable shoes,”.
Holly told the bride that she had spent her entire wedding day in bare feet as a result of uncomfortable footwear…oops.
Holly was accused of ‘acting selfishly’ during the ceremony:
However, fans made the accusation that Holly had been ‘fake crying’ throughout the whole ceremony, to try and steal the limelight of the couple and make the occasion ‘about her’.
Despite the criticism, Holly admitted that the ceremony had ‘ totally floored’ her, but one eagle-eyed viewer made the comment that the TV presenter had been watching the monitor to a shed a tear on cue when the cameras pointed in her direction.
Many social media users slammed Holly…here are some reactions:
‘Holly forcing out a tear!’
‘Holly is crying tears of joy thinking of the ten million she has ‘earned’ by reading an autocue and putting on a few fake facial expressions and a few fake laughs’
‘Willoughby’s whole ‘tv act’ is fake. The image she tries to portray as this ‘happy warm smiling wholesome girl-next-door’ is totally fake. TV insiders, and people who know her, know that she is a cold, miserable, unfriendly, nasty piece of work.’
‘Why is she crying, five seconds into the marriage of complete STRANGERS?!! She is so fake and pathetic, it’s embarrassing.’
‘I have always found her fake. I can’t bear the way she pretends to find things hysterical on This Morning. She saw the way Fern used to wheeze with laughter and she made a point of emulating that and now she has to keep it up.’
‘Thank God! Do you mean to say that people are finally figuring out that she is fake!! Her whole personality on TV is fake, especially when she pretends to not mean to say rude things on air – and then laughs at it for about 40 mins’
‘I really hate the sight of Holly Willoughby. I really hate that whole fake sweet wholesome thing she does. Pretending she’s concerned and emotional but in reality, she’s laughing inside over ‘earning’ ten million despite being talentless’
‘She is false and fake and smug and very rich, but the public can see through her falseness and fake over exaggerated facial expressions’
‘Seriously I can’t believe people are only just seeing her for what she is…false through and through…the girl next door act is long gone…’
“When will ITV start listening to the viewers. Get rid of the pair of them, all the pair do is make the show about themselves”
However, some fans jumped to Holly’s defence:
‘The tired old clichéd ‘jealous’ used on here, has become monotonous. Not liking someone, or thinking they are dull and over-rated, is not the same thing as jealousy. The ones who are fans of this creature, and who recognise only one, out of a whole panoply of human emotions, are obviously those with a limited education and vocabulary.’
‘So she is supposed to have faked this. Apart from so what, she obviously knew that at that moment in time there was a camera taking pictures of her just about in that millisecond to wipe her eye, and of course she has practised this thousand of times so she would get a cameraman to be there at that second to do this.she must be brilliant at timing. Why do you comment like this. Nothing else to do’.
