A man has been fatally crushed to death by a rollercoaster at the Berlin Christmas markets, according to firefighters.
Jens Peter-Wilkers, fire department spokesperson claims that a man has been hit by a rollercoaster carriage and was tragically crushed beneath it.
This happened on Saturday night at a peak time for the Christmas markets, approximately around 7 pm, and firefighters were called immediately.
The firefighters informed Deutsche Welle (DW) that all attempts to resuscitate the man failed.
The department said the victim was believed to be a rollercoaster attendant who at the time was attempting to fix something on the ride at the time of his death.
Counselling has been given to the family of four who was riding the rollercoaster at the time, based on Metro’s report.
The market had only been opened since Friday but has since been closed by officials.
The Berlin Christmas market was based at a large car park, on Landsberger Allee in the German’s capital northeast.
The DW has ruled out any foul play taking place.
The man’s death has occurred on the same weekend as a two-year-old girl who was crushed by a falling ice sculpture at the Christmas markets in Luxembourg.
