It’s hard to believe it’s been almost four years since the release of Mockingjay 2, but there is some potentially good news for Hunger Games fans around the world…
A prequel novel, under the name of Untitled Panem Novel, has just been confirmed by Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games franchise and Lionsgate have already stated they are looking forward to potentially turning the novel into a movie.
Speaking to Associated Press, Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake said: “As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published.
“We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie”.
Hunger Games fans, get ready!
However, as much as we’d all love to see a new edition of The Hunger Games on the big screen, it’s very unlikely we’ll see Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen make a return to the franchise, as the prequel will apparently take place 64 years before the original story.
The first film of the franchise The Hunger Games was released back in 2012 and turned Lawrence and her co-stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Liam Hemsworth into huge stars, with the four films taking over $5 billion worldwide at the box office.
The success of The Hunger Games also coincided with Lawrence’s Oscar-winning performance in Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and her BAFTA award-winning performance in American Hustle (2015).
