IKEA is hosting Christmas banquets across the UK on Thursday, December 12 to get everybody in the festive spirit.
Everybody loves IKEA, there are bargain furniture prices, they have great smelling candles and they also do delicious meatballs. But now it’s got even better thanks to IKEA hosting a Christmas banquet.
Well, it’s actually to celebrate Santa Lucia which is one of the biggest events in the Swedish calendars but it just so happens to fall around the most wonderful time of the year for everyone who loves Christmas.
The IKEA banquet will be in buffet form, where you can stuff your face with Swedish classics such as their famous meatballs, Swedish ham, salmon, potatoes, salads, and crispbread.
You’ll also be able to pile up your tray with cheese, gingerbread, eggs and a selection of cabbages.
Santa Lucia, also known as The Feast of Saint Lucy, is typically celebrated a day later on December 13 in Sweden and is to celebrate the longest night of the year.
It is said that third-century martyr Saint Lucy brought nourishment and aid to the Christians who were in hiding in the catacombs. Saint Lucy is said to have used candlelit wreaths to light her way as she carried as much food as possible.
Nowadays, to celebrate this occasion there are candlelit processions which are sure to light up the feast even more.
To get you into the mood of festivities, you should also expect traditional Swedish songs and some lovely mulled wine.
To join in on the event, you will need to purchase tickets that will be available from November. To find out further information, check out your local store. After selecting your local branch, you will be able to reserve your branch.
Prices are yet to be revealed, but knowing IKEA it’s not likely to make too much of a gap in your purse.
