James Corden has informed the Gavin & Stacey cast that he is interested in making another series based on the success of the Christmas special.
Despite James Corden now being a household name in the US, he is considering bringing back Gavin & Stacey for another series after the praise and popularity the Christmas special gathered.
The Cats actor has stated that if the audience is still there, then another series is definitely on the cards.
Oscar Hartland, who plays Neil the Baby, revealed that he quizzed Cordon on the show’s possible return: “I asked James Cordon and he said it was about what the fans want.
“He said he doesn’t want people to be like ‘Oh no, it’s Gavin & Stacey again’.”
Oscar was one of the original two babies to play Neil since the very beginning of the show, and he is still desperate for the show to make a return.
“I would like them to make a series four so much. I would like Smithy to say yes, and for the last episode to be their wedding,” he said.
It wasn’t always a given that Oscar would return to play Neil the Baby as an adult but after a successful audition in the summer, Oscar was told he could reprise the role.
Oscar is keen for his Gavin & Stacey family to return and admits that the cast has been in discussion on how they could make a full-blown return.
Oscar revealed to the Daily Star: “All the cast would talk about how good it was to be back and how we could start it off again and what could happen.”
The Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special achieved the highest Christmas Day ratings in over a decade, beating the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast that has dominated the ratings over the past few years – this year it was watched by 7.85 million people. Clearly, viewers were much more excited about the acclaimed comedy-drama show that stars Jame Cordon and Ruth Jones.
The show was aired on BBC One and was watched by an average of 11.6 million viewers, this means that approximately half of TV viewers at that time tuned in to watch the highly-anticipated sitcom return.
