The nation was shocked when ‘perfect’ couple Jamie and Louise Redknapp decided to call it quits on their marriage after 19 years back in December. No-one really saw it coming, but Louise admits that the decision was all down to the ‘Strictly curse’ which is said to be the cause of cause of split when contestants appear on the BBC 1 show.
Louise aged 41, previously admitted that she and Jamie had ‘laughed off’ comments when asked whether their marriage could be affected by the dreaded curse and admitted she never saw what was coming.
Talking exclusively to Hello Magazine back in October, Louise said: “We laughed about it. After so many years it’ll take more than Strictly and a sparkly leotard to cause problems. Plus, Kevin is married to the hottest dancer on the show!”
She also went on to admit that during her marriage to Jamie, she felt as though she was losing her identity as a performer and wanted to get back out in the spotlight – a notion only realised after placing second in the dancing contest.
In an interview with Stella Magazine at the time, Louise admitted she felt as though she was becoming a ‘Stepford wife’ and felt as though she needed to break away from that: “I didn’t want to continue running around after everyone else, and occasionally promoting a yogurt or doing a little TV presenting job. I wanted to sing, I wanted to perform. I wanted to go back to work on a stage in front of an audience.” she told the magazine.
“It was only when I agreed to do Strictly Come Dancing that I realised I couldn’t just go back to that. People might look at me and think I’ve got everything, but a sweeping staircase and designer handbag doesn’t really do it for me.”
A source told The Sun at the time: “Louise could now have a career in an area that she could not have imagined. There are castings, meetings with producers. She is looking to leverage her value and that is hard for them. She’s been on the road for seven months and only came home in April.
“She has been in the public eye and has a desire to work in the West End. She wants to get back to the kind of career she had when she was a single lady. The boys are growing up, so that’s understandable. There’s no one else involved. They don’t want lawyers involved, it would only look like they have something to hide.”
Although the pair had their differences, it seems Louise and Jamie had tried their hardest to work things out, but believed a divorce was the right thing to do after spending too much time apart over the past 12 months.
“They have come to a mutual agreement that divorce is the only option.” a source close to the former Eternal singer said. “Louise has filed the paperwork and there’s no going back.”
A friend close to the pair also went on to reveal to The Sun: “No one can believe it. They’ve always appeared to be the happiest couple in showbiz, but the pressure of Strictly Come Dancing has taken its toll.
“It’s been a real shock, but both families are rallying around them and doing their very best to offer support to help ensure they stay together. Jamie has spent time away from the house to be with his parents, but he’s back now — and Louise is returning after some work commitments.
“They’re then looking forward to celebrating Jamie’s mum’s birthday as a family.”
While we may be eager for the pair to get back together sometime in the near future, it appears this may not be an option with claims that they are now drifting apart and are open to dating new people.
Rumour has it that Jamie is now seeing the daughter of Carine Roitfeld; the former Vogue editor – Julia Restoin Roitfeld.
The 37-year-old is a model and founder of maternity company Romy and the Bunnies; which was no doubt named after her 5-year-old daughter, Romy.
The brunette beauty posts regular updates on her Instagram profile in which she is seen spending days on the beach and snapping gorgeous selfies.
According to a source, the pair have been getting very close in recent weeks, with Jamie trying to get his head around the divorce.
In discussion with the Mail Online, a source revealed: “Jamie is a sucker for posh girls these days. He’s been texting Julia asking her for dates whenever she is back in London.”
The pair have also been said to have gone on a number of dates, but their alleged romance seems to be kept very hush-hush at the moment.
Louise may also be on the dating scene after she was spotted with a brand-new man at the Brits after-show party a few weeks back. The man who hasn’t as of yet been named was snapped getting very up-close and personal with Louise, as he was snapped by paps with his arm around her waist.
It’s not just moving on in terms of relationships that Louise is now open to, but she’s also aiming to her solo singing career kickstarted for the second time.
She recently signed a new contract at Warner Music, which marks almost 14 years since her last hit single back in 2004.
Currently, the ex-Eternal singer is on a UK tour, which is her very first in 15 years. The new contract is said to have come about due to the popularity of the tour; with tickets selling out in just under 10 minutes when released online back in December.
Speaking to The Daily Mail about her new venture, Louise said: “I hadn’t played a headline show for 15 years and taking to the stage again filled me with so many emotions from nerves to sheer joy.
“All my family and friends were so supportive and it was wonderful to see so many there too. The atmosphere in the room was absolutely incredible and I was so moved by the amazing response from fans young and old.”
