Fans were shocked as the news broke that lovebirds Jamie and Louise Redknapp had decided to call off their 20-year marriage last month.
At the time, Louise declared she had ‘lost herself in marriage’ over the years and upon taking part in Strictly Come Dancing, realised that she would rather be in the spotlight than concreating her full effort on being a wife and mother. She stated that she felt “physically sick” at the idea of never getting back on the stage again after her Strictly experience.
Reports suggested that she the split was down to jealousy, as Jamie had gained a successful TV career and Louise dreamt of giving her own career another shot.
At the time of the split, she said: ‘I lost myself. It happens to a lot of women when they get married and have children’
“Strictly helped me hugely and it reminded me more than anything how much I love to perform. When you have a family you don’t do it for a long time. It’s very easy to fall into a comfort zone, thinking ‘I used to do that’. She added.
“Strictly reminded me how much I love playing characters. For all of my dances I was always a character with a bit of a storyline to invest in being someone else for three-and-a-half minutes. I realised again how much I love singing, dancing and performing.
“The thought of not having the opportunity to carry on doing it was kind of devastating for me, but luckily this opportunity came along and I thought ‘Right, I need to give this a go”.
Making an appearance on This Morning, she discussed also discussed the split with hosts Eamonn and Ruth:
“I think that it’s been so heavily documented and of course we all go through hard times and my priority and his priority is our children and protecting them and keeping as much private as possible and loving them and putting them first. That’s really what we’re focusing on.”
“I think for me, going back to work has been something that has been a real saviour for me. Doing Strictly – Ruth you know this – it does something.”
She added: “And for me it’s all about performing and to go back on stage every night and get the opportunity – you know in this business, opportunities don’t always come along. You kind of have to hope.”
However, the latest rumours suggest that Louise and Jamie may be trying to work things out and could even be living under the same roof at Christmas. Louise is said to be ‘upset’ by her decision to break off the marriage and is also devastated that Jamie has stopped making the effort to get back together with her. She’s said to be “ready to make it work” after realising her mistake.
Previously, Louise had discussed the marriage saying: “We go through all the things that people go through in life.We scream at each other sometimes, we have days when we can’t cope with the kids.”
In an interview with Stella Magazine recently after the split, Louise said: “I didn’t want to continue running around after everyone else, and occasionally promoting a yogurt or doing a little TV presenting job. I wanted to sing, I wanted to perform. I wanted to go back to work on a stage in front of an audience.”
A source close to Louise told Now Magazine: “Louise has started to wobble and really misses Jamie and her family,”
“It’s all been a hard call for her and there have been times when she’s felt stronger and times she felt weaker about being apart from Jamie and now she’s seriously wavering on her decision,”.
The couple tied the knot back in 1998 and had a very small and laid back wedding in Bermuda, despite rumours they were to have a glitzy showbiz ‘do. However, it was in April earlier this year when reports confirmed their marriage was on the rocks.
During her Strictly stint, Louise said it was Daisy Lowe who made her rethink her life choices and made her come to the conclusion about what she really wanted in life. She admitted that Daisy came into her dressing room and told her that she had an amazing body – and realised she had been hiding from the showbiz world.
“Oh, my God look at your gorgeous body. You have to wear a sexy dress.” Daisy had told her, whilst Louise confessed: “She kept on at me to wear something sexy and by week three, I was in a leotard and tights not feeling self-conscious at all.”
Appearing on the Lorraine show soon after the news broke of Jamie and Louise’s separation, Daisy discussed her fondness of Louise: “I think all of us really rallied round her. I was so shocked, she’s so much fun and we really saw that come alive and it was beautiful to see that blossom in that way.”
The source close to Louise told The Mirror that she was even planning on moving in with her new friend after ditching Jamie: “Louise had seriously planned to move in with Daisy and they had looked at places in Primrose Hill as Louise was keen on relocating to London. But she’s beginning to have second thoughts.”, but they also added that the star is now having second thoughts about whether she should move out from the family home.
Louise is currently starring as Sally Bowles in the stage show Cabaret, but said that after the split, she felt “wounded”.
Talking of husband Jamie, Louise said: “He’s an amazing man and we’ve had 20 good years together. I know he’s trying to understand that I do need to do this.
“People might look at me and think I’ve got everything, but a sweeping staircase and designer handbag doesn’t really do it for me.”
The pair have two sons, Charley aged 12 and Beau, aged nine.
Earlier this week, Jamie appeared on a celebrity edition of Gogglebox in aid of ‘Stand Up to Cancer’. The former footballer teared up as he viewed a number of heartbreaking stories of families who had suffered from terminal cancer.
Viewers were also quick to notice that Jamie wasn’t wearing his wedding ring as the cameras focused on him, therefore fans were left wondering whether or not the pair will make be making amends.
