A man has deliberately gotten himself arrested so he doesn’t have to marry his girlfriend – which apparently makes a lot more sense than just telling the truth clearly!
For anyone, even those without commitment issues, it can be a stressful period of life knowing that soon you’re going to be married and committed to that person for the rest of your life.
For one man, this was becoming a little too daunting and he decided he had to do something fast to prevent marrying his girlfriend – so he decided to get himself arrested to avoid the big day.
This person, known only as Mr Chen, was certainly getting cold feet when he thought of marrying his girlfriend.
So, to make his girlfriend doubt him he came to the decision to get involved in a robbery to make her have a change of heart.
Mr Chen’s plan worked when he stole a speaker from a dance studio on Huashan Road, Shanghai.
It didn’t take long for the police to track him down, as they actually arrested him on the very same day.
When they began to investigate, the police were shocked to hear that Mr Chen had gotten himself into so much trouble just so he could avoid getting married.
The Bluetooth device which Mr Chen had stolen was worth £220 ($287), and he said he chose that specific item as he knew it wouldn’t have cost the owner too much money in comparison to other pieces of property.
He informed authorities at Xinhua Road Police Station: “My girlfriend wants to marry me, but I don’t want to marry her. I knew I would be caught. I actually wanted to walk away, but I was angry.
“My girlfriend wants to get married, but I don’t want to. I knew you would find me, though I didn’t think it would be so fast.”
The man is still in custody but it has been reported because it’s his first offence and only a minor, he won’t be there for long.
Mr Chen went to great lengths to avoid marrying his girlfriend. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not his efforts have worked in persuading his girlfriend to cancel the wedding.
