Matt Lucas Has Been Announced As The New Host Of Great British Bake Off

Matt Lucas has officially been announced as the new host of the popular baking show Great British Bake Off, he will be hosting alongside Noel Fielding.

Replacing Sandi Toksvif who has stepped down after three years, Matt Lucas will be in the famous Bake Off tent, watching and getting to know some of the best bakers in the country as they compete to be the winner.

In a statement to Sky News, Lucas said: “I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television.

“I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!”

The Great British Bake Off official Twitter account also welcomed Lucas to the team, they even posted a video of him practising his Bake Off presenting skills alongside Fielding.

Welcoming him to the Bake Off team, Fielding said: “I love Matt. I love his warmth and comedy and his big joyful smile. I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph.”

The show moved from BBC1 in 2017 and now airs on Channel 4; filming for the show typically begins in springtime.

Director of programmes, Ian Katz, has stated they are all looking forward to working with Lucas.

“We’re thrilled that one much loved national institution is joining another,” he said. “Matt has everything it takes to be a great Bake Off presenter: he’s warm, hilarious and loves cake.”

Judges Hollywood and Leith have also welcomed the new star onto the team.

Since the hit show launched in 2010, Hollywood has been the only star to remain. He originally judged alongside Mary Better and presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who departed the show when it switched to Channel 4.

Hollywood shared: “I’m a genuine fan of Matt’s, it is such great news he will be joining us in the tent.

“He’s a fantastic addition to the team.”

Leith added: “The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?”

Actor, writer and comedian, Lucas first rose to fame in Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s Shooting Stars in the 90s, he then went on to have a massive success with the comedy show Little Britain, alongside comedy partner David Walliams.

He has appeared in some blockbuster films which include Bridesmaids, Alice in Wonderland and Paddington. He has even played a part in Les Miserables on stage in the West End.
