A man who appeared on the This Morning sofa today has left parents across the country absolutely furious, due to the nature of the conversation which was spoken about in front of very young viewers.
Many parents try and savour every last bit of hope that their kids still believe in the magic of Christmas, however former editor Martin Daubney caused controversy this morning after revealing to child viewers that Santa is make-believe.
Discussing a father’s role during Christmas time, Martin talked about how men also play a huge part in the build-up to the big day – most of the time running around to do get last minute gifts. However, what came next left parents covering their little one’s ears.
“What men do is deliberately left to the last minute – that’s my strategy,” he said.
“I’ve got the kids sorted out, because I knew what they want, I wouldn’t leave that till the last minute. But I like Christmas Eve shopping, for everybody,”.
The guest who sat next to him then went on to trigger the awkward conversation, whilst Ruth and Eamonn looked slightly alarmed as to how Martin should choose to word his response.
“So when you say you’ve got the kids sorted, have you bought all the children’s presents?” the female guest asked.
“Yes, yes I have. Well, not all of them… the boys are watching.” Martin replied before realising what he had admitted and aimed to backtrack: ” No, sorry, Santa [has bought them]!”.
Parents who were tuned into the show were left raging by the blunder and took to social media to comment that the nature of the discussion was highly appropriate, bearing in mind a large number of children may have been listening.
“When the kids are at home on Christmas break and you’re sitting down talking about who buys the kids presents – not the smartest idea right?!” one tweeter said.
Whilst another added: “Well done to the t*t on this morning who accidentally just gave away that Santa isn’t real to his kids watching”.
During a separate segment with Santa today, Eamonn made a dig at his wife but was hilariously slammed by Santa – there’s no doubt he will be on the naughty list this year.
Santa had been answering questions from young viewers throughout the morning, however, Eamonn thought that he’d ask what he should expect from the old guy on Christmas day.
“Will I be waking up to a lovely Christmas, Santa?” Eamonn asked.
Santa cheekily responded: “Well you’ve got Ruth! It doesn’t get much better than that. You’re a lucky man.”
Eamonn thought he’d use the opportunity to create a bit of banter about Ruth who was out of the shot of the camera: “Could we not make it a little bit better that?”
However, Santa was definitely on ‘Team Ruth’ and took an awkward swipe at the 58-year-old presenter: ” You see, you’ re a little naughty boy, because I think that Ruth’s got low self-esteem and I think you took advantage there. She got the raw end of the deal there.”
Eamonn wasn’t having any of it and tried to swerve the conversation in a different direction: “She’s got cold today, she’s away giving the reindeer carrots.” he said.
Yet, this wasn’t the first risky remark Santa made on today’s live show. One child asked the old man how he could possibly cart around such a large amount of gifts to every household in the world; before replying with a hilarious innuendo which left parents in hysterics.
“It’s not so much the sleigh but the sack” he started. “My sack is a bit like Doctor Who’s Tardis. It’s bigger on the inside you see.
“So I can have as many presents in there and it doesn’t take up much space, which is good because it would be quite difficult having every delivery to pop back to the North pole to get more.”
Viewers were left chuckling at his witty response, with many taking to Twitter to comment on the segment:
“This morning’s Santa has just a 5-year-old girl that his sack is bigger then Dr Who’s tardis. Has this lad been CIB checked?” one tweeter joked.
His sack is like the Tardis – bigger on the inside. Oh god, I’m laughing so much. #ThisMorning @ThisMorning.”
“I am HOWLING at the Father Christmas on #ThisMorning.”
“Has Santa been on the sherry already?” another asked.
During a phone-in session, another child asked Father Christmas what he usually expects when arriving at each household, to which he replied: “That is a terrific question. I usually like a mince pie or cookie and a glass of milk or something a little stronger.”
One entertained tweeter commented that Santa is essentially promoting ‘drink driving’ to young kids and that his inappropriate responses to the questions on daytime TV were simply legendary.
“Santa promoting drunk driving…sack him.” another commented.
