A mum stole her own daughter’s husband after paying for their £15,000 wedding and then discovered she was pregnant with his child.
Lauren Wall, 34, was left absolutely heartbroken when her own mum betrayed her by having an affair with her husband.
At the time, Lauren was 19-years-old and thought all her dreams had come true when she walked down the aisle to her future husband, Paul White.
It was August 2014 and Lauren can still remember her mum’s beaming and proud face.
Having been together for just two years, Lauren decided to marry Paul after having their daughter that March.
“Although we hadn’t planned a family so soon, when our daughter was born we were thrilled,” said Lauren, from Twickenham, South West London.
After having their child, the pair decided to have their nuptials in a church, with Lauren’s mum forking out £15,000 for the special day.
Lauren said when she met Paul it was an instant attraction and knew that she had to her have her dream ceremony to him, feeling that they were meant to be.
After the wedding, Lauren decided it was only appropriate to invite her mum, Julie, along with them as she had been so generous by helping out with the wedding costs.
So, as a thank you for footing the bill, Lauren and Paul took Julie on their honeymoon to Devon.
However, when they came back home three weeks later, Lauren noticed that Paul was not his usual self.
She said he had become a completely different person, hiding his phone and being very “protective” of his privacy.
Not long after this, Lauren’s sister broke the scandalous news that Julie, Lauren’s own mum, had been having an affair with Paul.
She had borrowed her mum’s phone and stumbled across saucy messages between the two.
Lauren’s sister had debated whether or not to tell her but felt that she had to so Lauren could confront the deceiving pair.
Lauren said: “Mum denied everything, saying, ‘You’re crazy!’ When I confronted Paul he went white as a sheet – and refused to let me see his phone.”
Days later, Lauren was devastated to find that Paul had left to start a life with her mum.
Describing the pain, Lauren said: “I felt like my world had ended. I was a 19-year-old kid with a kid.”
Things happened quickly after Paul left, Lauren heard from others that the couple had moved in together and then she spotted her mum shopping, cradling a bump.
Lauren said: “When I saw her in the street and noticed she had a bump, my mind raced. She clutched her stomach and told me, ‘It’s a cyst’. I felt so sick, I went home and destroyed all the photos of our wedding.
“I couldn’t believe the two people I loved and trusted most in the world could betray me like this.
“It was sick. It’s one of the worst things a mum can do to a daughter.
“Paul may have been a gutless groom but she’s my mum. She’s meant to love and protect me above all others.”
This shocking news made Lauren realise she had to move on with her’s and her daughter’s life. So she set about getting a divorce and focused on making herself happy.
Remarkably, Lauren found the strength to attend Paul and Julie’s wedding in 2006. She felt that she had to do so, for her daughter’s sake.
Lauren has stated that her mum has tried to reach out, once even ambushing her in her car and one time writing her a letter, but this became fruitless. Lauren couldn’t believe a mum could be capable of such a thing.
The pair are now on speaking terms, but things are difficult with tension in the air.
As Paul is married to her mum and the father of her child, Lauren still has to speak to him. She wants him to explain what he did to their daughter, but he believes it is all “forgotten” now.
Over time, Lauren found love again and is now happy with a new partner and is expecting her fourth child.
Julie has commented on the situation, saying: “We are married. We didn’t have an affair. We are married and that’s it.”
Meanwhile, Paul has refused to comment on what happened.
