As of next month, you may not be able to watch Netflix if you use a Samsung device, as the company states that some of their Smart TVs won’t be compatible with Netflix’s new standards any longer.
Your days of Netflix and chill may be coming to an abrupt end as Samsung has warned via their website that their older TVs may no longer be accommodating of the popular streaming app.
As of December 1, Samsung has stressed to its customers that older Smart TVs may not be compatible with the app.
The notice posted on Samsung’s website states: “Due to technical limitations, Netflix will no longer be supported on some devices beginning on December 1st, 2019. Some older Samsung smart TVs are affected by this change.
“In the future, Netflix can be viewed from many other devices capable of connecting to your TV.”
The announcement does go on to explain that you may be able to access Netflix through alternative ways: “Although some of our older TVs will no longer support Netflix directly beginning December 1st, 2019, many other devices you may have connected to your TV are still supported.
“You can find a list from Netflix at netflix.com/compatible devices. As long as you have one of the supported devices, like a game console, streaming media player, or set-top box, you’ll still be able to watch Netflix on your TV.”
If you own a Samsung TV, especially an old edition, this is sure to be a downer to your day.
Thankfully, you will still be able to link the app to your TV if you have another device such as a gaming console, streaming media player or set-top box.
To check if your device is compatible with Netflix browse their list, which includes such devices as the XBOX One, PS4, PS3, Virgin, BT, Humax and TalkTalk set up boxes.
If none of are these are an option for you, Samsung has been quick to reassure that you can still enjoy such services as Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chrome Cast, and Roku.
Of course, nothing comes for free and all of these devices typically range from £30 to £100.
In the meantime, it’s probably best to get as much Netflix-binging done as possible.
