Its news that Spice Girl fans around the world have been waiting for, and now they finally get their wish as the hotly anticipated reunion of the girlband that shaped the Britain’s feel good factor in the 90s is believed to be going ahead, no less than six years after all of the members were in the same room together.
On Thursday night, as reports of a get together surfaced, Mel B, 42, was seen flying out of Los Angeles, and is believed to be headed for a secret meeting with Victoria Beckham, 43, Emma Bunton, 42, Mel C, 44, and Geri Horner, 45, in London.
However, reports have also surfaced that Victoria Beckham will only agree to the reunion on the proviso that she does not have to sing.
A source spoke to MailOnline and said: “Victoria is currently concentrating on leaving for New York fashion week on Monday.
“She has her final show prep to think about and a forthcoming charity field trip.”
An insider told The Sun: “This is the pop reunion no one thought would ever happen again. But after a long period of negotiation Victoria agreed the time is right to work on new projects this year.”
“Now that she’s a top designer Victoria is concerned about singing but she wants to make money to pump back into her business.”
Victoria’s fashion empire was launched back in 2008, and according to The Sun made a loss of million last year.
However, it has also been suggested by an insider that Victoria and Geri are said to be refusing to commit to a “fully-fledged tour” because of their own family commitments.
It doesn’t look as though we’ll be getting a fully fledged singing tour – as that has been said to have been taken off the table, various reports suggest that other, more wide ranging projects are being considered. These include a compilation album that celebrate the group’s greatest hits, hosting a television talent show, as well as endorsing products and working on shows for the Chinese market.
The possibility of getting a Spice Girls reunion gig together in some shape or form has been in the works for a few months now – as everyone goes over negations and logistics among other variables that will need ironing out in a deal of this size.
Mel C previously revealed that she decided against joining a reunion in 2016 after her fellow band mate Victoria Beckham decided against joining up with the other Spice Girls.
The pair previously reunited with the rest of the girls for a world tour in 2007 and performed a medley of their greatest hits during the London Olympics Opening Ceremony back in 2012.
The last time they are believed to have all been in the same room together is when the quintet reunited for a press conference later that year to promote the launch of the Spice Girls themed Viva Forever! They did not, however, perform.
It has also been revealed that all of the Spice Girls would be getting around million each for the reunion gig. You’d think that for a cool 10 mil Victoria would at least sing a little bit!
Appearing on The Night Show in March last year, Mel addressed rumours the Spice Girls will reunite as a four, without Victoria, and said: “It’s not really doing the band justice to go out as a four piece.”
Explaining further, she revealed: “Whoever’s missing, it doesn’t matter. I think for me Spice girls is like a jigsaw puzzle.
“It’s different to other bands. Look at Take That – they’re going out as a three piece and they’re brilliant. I love the boys!
“But with the Spice Girls, everything about us was the individuality and what that created together,” she continued.
They’ve always been known for their individuality – and it was quite refreshing back in the day to see a girl band that each had unique members with their own styles, personalities and traits. It wasn’t seen that often, when taking into account that most boy bands that came out at the same time seemed like slight variations of one another that looked like they had come out of the “Boy Bands R Us” factory.
And who could forget the nicknames the Spice Girls, who debuted back in 1994, all had.
Mel was known as Sporty Spice, while Victoria was known as Posh Spice, Mel B was Scary Spice, Emma Bunton was Baby Spice and Geri Halliwell, now Horner, was dubbed Ginger Spice.
Despite Mel’s claims, Geri had hinted in October that the Spice Girls could still reunite, telling Red Magazine that she could seen something in works, but kept her cards close to her chest regarding exactly who would be involved.
She said: “I really pushed to get everyone back together. It got to the point where I just had to let it go. I still love the girls and there are other bits and bobs in the pipeline.”
Meanwhile, back in the summer of 2016, it was announced to the world that former Spice Girl stars Mel B, Geri and Emma would be reuniting under the banner GEM.
It wasn’t long after the announcement that fans were teased with their real inside glimpse of the newly formed group containing parts of the Spice Girls sooner after, when one of their singles was leaked online.
While Geri insisted at the time that it wasn’t the group’s new single, that didn’t stop fans going into meltdown on Twitter.
One person posted: “Omg the new Spice Girls/GEM song sounds like a Eurovision entry I’m obsessed.”
“I just heard the new Spice Girls song and, no,” a second blasted, while a third wrote: “Disappointed in the Spice Girls GEM ‘Song for her’. I mean it’s no ‘Half of me’ is it?”
Despite the song getting a negative reaction from some, others were quick to gush over the leaked lyrics.
One posted: “Song for her is just wow!!!! #spicegirls #SpicegirlsGEM #Songforher #spicegirls20,” while another excited social networker continued: “OMG! #SongForHer #SpiceGirls #GEM.”
A further person gushed: “Song For Her! I’m in love #SpiceGirls,” as another shared: “New Spice Girls/GEM song ‘Song for Her’. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.”
The group insisted that despite news that Geri had announced at the time that she was pregnant, their comeback would go ahead as planned.
But not much else was ever heard of from the group, until now that is!
