Kirk Douglas, a Hollywood legend whose career spanned seven decades, has passed away at the age of 103. Stars have paid tribute to the iconic star.
Stage and screen actor, Kirk Douglas, was well-known for several roles, including the classic 1960 Spartacus, in which he played the titular character.
Born in New York in 1916, he rose to prominence during Hollywood’s ‘Golden Age’ and earnt his first Oscar in 1949 for the film Champion.
In total, Douglas had over 90 credits to his name in films, ranging from the 1940s to the 2000s.
He was also the father of Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas.
A statement was made by his son: “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today.
“To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies… but to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad.
“Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad – I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.”
Michael’s wife and Kirk’s daughter-in-law, Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones, took to Instagram to pay a tribute, writing: “I shall love you for the rest of my life. I miss you already.”
Other stars also took to social media to pay tribute to the Hollywood legend.
Legendary actor Kirk Douglas has passed on today at the age of 103. An Academy Award winning actor and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Douglas was a champion for many just causes and lived a long and storied life. He was adored and beloved, and he shall be missed.
