Super Bowl TV spots give us our first look at Buzz and Woody…
Last night, the New England Patriots made history as they became the first team to win the Super Bowl for the sixth time. Often heralded as ‘The Greatest Show On Earth’, The Super Bowl is thought to attract at least 100 million viewers from around the world and so provides the perfect platform for Disney to give us a new look at some of the films they will be releasing this year.
Last night we were shown our first proper look at Toy Story 4, with Woody and Bo-Peep searching for Buzz, who was being held hostage elsewhere at a theme park by two new characters Ducky and Bunny, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. There have been a few short trailers for Toy Story 4 in the last few months, but this is the first time we’ve seen any dialogue between the main characters and it is so great to see and hear Buzz and Woody back again!
The plot for Toy Story 4 is being kept fairly quiet, but we do know that the main characters are all going on a big road trip, that reunites Woody with his long-lost girlfriend Little Bo-Peep. Last week, Tom Hanks tweeted that he has recorded his final lines as Woody with the caption “Final line, final session as Woody of Toy Story 4. We rode like the wind, to infinity and beyond. Hanx”. Toy Story 4 is released in June by Walt Disney Studios and you can check out the trailer that dropped last night below.
Captain Marvel kicks off Disney’s releases this year, with the film coming out at the beginning of next month, just before another huge release for Disney, Dumbo. Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, a former US Pilot who joins the galactic air force group Starforce. Set in 1990, the official synopsis for Captain Marvel says “Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the centre of the maelstrom.” In the short trailer, we see Brie Larson being as bad-ass as you’d imagine and plenty of inter-galactic action.
Samuel L Jackson is joining Larson as Agent Nick Fury, and Jackson was digitally de-aged by 25 years to play the role set in the 90s. Who knew digital de-ageing was thing, hey? Also joining the cast is Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva and Jude Law will be playing the commander of Starforce. Captain Marvel is set for release in March by Walt Disney Studios and you can check out the big game trailer below.
And finally we were treated to another short trailer by Disney for what is surely going to be one of the biggest films of the year. Avengers: Endgame is the sequel to Infinity War that broke box office records, the internet and our hearts when it came out last year.
The plot of the film is understandably being kept very quiet, but we do know Endgame will pick up where Infinity War left off, with the Avengers separated from each other after Thanos’ attempt to regain all of the Infinity Stones. Judging by the trailer that dropped last night, Endgame will feature some of The Avengers who didn’t really get a look in, in Infinity War with Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man heading an impressive, and dare I say, new line-up of Avengers. The trailer has quite a melancholy feel to it and an overriding sense of loss, which is to be expected because none of us could have been prepared for what happened in Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame is released by Walt Disney Studios in April.
