James Gunn’s new take on the superhero genre is an eye opener…
It is crazy to think that James Gunn will not be making Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, after he was fired by Marvel last year. Gunn however has kept himself busy and about a month ago it was confirmed that he would write and direct DC’s The Suicide Squad which is scheduled for release in 2021. Before that though, Gunn is putting on his ‘producing hat’, as brings us a new take on the superhero genre with Brightburn and it’s a real eye opener.
Brightburn cleverly twists the superhero genre on it’s head, as Mr and Mrs Breyer, played by David Denman and Elizabeth Banks, adopt a baby boy who has crash-landed on Earth. Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn), isn’t your average child and he isn’t your average superhero either, using his superpowers for something much more sinister instead of good.
It’s certainly a very clever and original idea for a superhero movie and has basically flipped the whole genre on it’s head, giving us a superhero horror. In the trailer, we see young Brandon get to grips with his superpowers and see how his parents deal with his apparent need to turn his powers into chaos and destruction. Check out the trailer below:
Written by Mark and Brian Gunn, and directed by David Yarovesky, Brightburn stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagne and offers us a brand new and bold take on the superhero genre. Brightburn is set for release in May 2019 by Sony Pictures.
