With three months still to go until the premiere of Stranger Things Series 3, fans of the supernatural must be chomping at the bit to sink their teeth into something juicy – and Netflix might just have the perfect solution.
The streaming giant dropped the trailer for their new series Black Summer on YouTube last night, and it looks like it could give The Walking Dead a serious run for its money.
“Set in the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, Black Summer stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a harrowing journey to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones.

Thrown into the action when the Armed Forces take her daughter, Rose promises herself that she’ll do whatever it takes to track her down. In order for Rose and her team to brave this hostile new world, they will need to make brutal decisions to contend with the undead – and with each other.
Produced by The Asylum, Black Summer promises to be something completely different. Co-creator Karl Schaefer has said that, despite being a companion prequel for SyFy series Z Nation, it follows the old-school route of zombie horror.
Series producer Jodi Binstock told Mandy, “Black Summer is referred to in Z Nation as the summer where everything went to hell, so that is where Black Summer picks up. It’s as if the zombie apocalypse really happened in 2018 and explores what that would be for all of us. It’s a very unique style that I think people will really respond to.”
Season One of Black Summer, consisting of eight episodes, premieres April 11 on Netflix.
