A 21-year-old woman has defended her three-year relationship with her 54-year-old boyfriend on social media.

Nicole Downs, from Michigan, US, recently revealed details of her romance with her partner, known only as Michael, in a TikTok video which has now gone viral.

She said: “So I’ve never really posted a pic of us, me and my boyfriend of over a year 10/20/18.

“Ever since we met we’ve been inseparable, I haven’t posted him because of our age gap and didn’t even want to deal with other people’s negativity but this is my life and I do what makes me happy.”

Since her initial announcement, Downs has been sharing more content about their relationship and she has unfortunately received a ton of criticism from people who claim she is ‘using’ him.

One person commented: “You don’t seem to love him. You are probably using him which is sad.”

“Would you date him if he was broke and old?” a second added.

Joining in, a third said: “Girl, I thought he was your dad.”

However, many people have been showing support for the couple as they think they are ‘cute’ together.

“Live your lives, you guys are cute,” one follower gushed.

Another pitched in, saying: “I love you guys together so, so much!”

They aren’t the only couple to make headlines with their big age gap.

Recently, a 61-year-old grandma confirmed she’s engaged to her boyfriend, 24.

On Instagram, they said: “She said yes. You make me a simp but I love you and it’s nothing but forward from here.”
