A 9/11-themed bar has been branded ‘trashy’ for fetishizing the tragedy.

Photographs of the Texas establishment, named Bar9Eleven, have been circulating on social media ever since Twitter user Jesse Tyler came across it.

He wrote on Twitter: “Drove by this bar and thought ‘huh I wonder what that’s about’. Turns out it’s about exactly what you think.”

Alongside the caption, Tyler attached images of the site, which reveals there’s a timeline of the event in framed photos. However, instead of being focused on the tragedy, it’s discussed from the perspective of the Bar9Eleven’s owner.

One of the descriptions reads: “Rosanne (my wife) informs me that reports out of New York indicate some type of aircraft has collided with the World Trade Center but details were ‘sketchy’.

“Having hosted over 400 people the previous night… my response was predictably short. ‘Honey, our restaurant will open in less than two and a half hours. I cannot talk on the phone’.”

Many Twitter users have been left feeling shocked and horrified at the discovery.

One person mused: “So many questions. Does this place get a lot of business? Do they realize it’s not paying tribute but exploiting the day?”

Another wrote: “I was gobsmacked and horrified by this, wondering what town would ever have a bar like this. Then I clicked your profile and saw that we’re in the same city. Is this in Springfield?!?”

Since the bar has made it viral, Brent Johnson, its owner, has told Texas Monthly why he landed on the controversial name.

Allegedly, he read about a survey that revealed ‘eighty percent of Americans’ didn’t know the event’s anniversary.

He commented: “I don’t want anyone who comes into my restaurant to forget that day.”

On September 11, 2001, the world was left speechless when 3,000 people were killed when four hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers in the US.
