An Australian Aboriginal woman, who has blonde hair and fair skin, has slammed trolls who say she ‘can’t be indigenous’.
Kate Maree Cooper recently took to TikTok to let her followers know that her appearance ‘doesn’t take away from the fact that she’s Aboriginal’.
Calling out a user who questioned her heritage, she said: “I identify myself as an Aboriginal woman. I am from Wirdajuri mob, [a group of indigenous Australians from central New South Wales].

“Just because I have fairer skin, blue eyes and dye my hair blonde, doesn’t take away that I’m Aboriginal.
“If you would look up some of our history, you would understand why us first nation peoples really love the saying of ‘It doesn’t matter how much milk you put in coffee, it’s always gonna be coffee.'”
She then finished the video by adding some of the comments she received were ‘not okay’.

Several viewers were quick to share their support for the 22-year-old, who has amassed a following of over 400,000 on the social media platform.
One follower commented: “You gave the most amazing respectful response! Awesome.”
“I get it if the person isn’t actually indigenous, but i don’t like when they put fair skin mob down! Keep pushing sis,” added another.
A third chimed in: “Love to see mob talking about this kind of thing. I’m indigenous and also super pale and I find that the only people that ever comment on this kind of thing, are non-indigenous people.
“I have never met an indigenous person who questions it. Keep doing you sis.”
Cooper responded in the comments section by saying she ‘didn’t want to come across rude,’ but just ‘wanted to educate’ people.
