Adele has been branded ‘anti-trans’ following her acceptance speech at the 2022 BRIT Awards.

When picking up the gong for the gender-neutral Artist of the Year, the ’30’ singer took the opportunity to state she ‘loves being a woman’ and a ‘female artist’.

Following her comments, many people took to Twitter and suggested that she’s ‘on Team TERF,’ which stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist.

One activist wrote: “Please no, Adele can’t be a TERF. That last comment, though ambiguous, could be perceived as TERF-y. Please no.”

A second added: “Adele may have won the BRITs but her speech has made Britan feel like an even more trans hostile country to the vulnerable trans community.”

“Adele’s been away from the UK too long if she thinks she can say she loves being female and the TERFs won’t take that as some twisted victory in their hate campaign against trans women,” a third remarked.

However, others jumped to the singer’s defence, writing: “Calling Adele a TERF for saying she is proud to be a woman in music is absolutely ridiculous and shows just how this country loves cancelling people at the top of their game.

“Adele has always been an ally to the LGBTQI+ community. You lot are just bored and hate her success.”

“What’s that I hear?” asked another. “Why, it’s the sound of the birth of tiny baby TERF’s sprouting the world over, as people rage at Adele for daring to be proud to be female because it’s somehow all about trans or something.”
