People are cringing after seeing Adrien Brody’s ‘inappropriate’ kiss with Halle Berry at the Oscars.
The Oscars is well-known for providing some pretty awkward encounters.
Think of Will Smith taking to the stage to slap host Chris Rock after his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, or when Jennifer Lawrence took a tumble up the stairs when collecting an award in 2013.
And while this year’s event passed without quite so much awkwardness – footage of Brody sticking it on Berry – who presented at the 2023 event – has caused quite a stir online.

At the 75th Academy Awards back in 2003, Berry took the stage to present Brody with the Best Actor award for his performance in the film The Pianist.
However, things took a bit of a turn when Brody, instead of delivering the expected heartfelt speech, decided to grab Berry and kiss her on the lips.
Brody and Berry’s impromptu snog has been dubbed one of the Oscars’ ‘favourite moments’ on its official YouTube channel.

But while some loved the unplanned and ‘passionate’ moment between the pair, others believe it was all pretty cringeworthy.
One person writes on Twitter: “I thought it was icky and inappropriate when Adrien Brody did it to Halle Berry when he got his Oscar.
“I hope he apologised to her.”
Another adds: “It’s completely wrong. You can see she is caught off guard and didn’t know what to do.
“Just because he wanted to kiss her doesn’t mean it’s OK. He should have got her approval.”
A third person comments: “I don’t think he could do that today.”
While not much was made of the incident at the time, years later Berry said that the kiss wasn’t planned and she was left completely bemused by it.
Talking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens, the Catwoman actress said: “That was not planned, I knew nothing about it.
“I was like, ‘What the f*** is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind.
“I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body. I just f***ing went with it.”

When asked if she enjoyed the kiss, Berry replied: “I don’t know, I was too focused on what the f*** was going on.”
Brody himself has addressed the moment in more detail.
He reportedly told Vanity Fair that he hadn’t seen Berry since but described the kiss as ‘one of the most memorable moments ever’.
He added: “You could say time slowed down, that was that moment when I really, really felt it slow down.”
Brody says by the time he’d finished the kiss, a sign telling him to ‘get off the stage’ had started flashing.
