Speaking about those who are too embarrassed to engage in a bit of ‘me-time’, clinical sexologist, G Stone, said: “Historically, sex is viewed as taboo and heavily stigmatised in many cultures.
“As such, many people have an unhealthy relationship with sex and pleasure.
“Masturbation can trigger feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment, but it’s a great way to improve bodily autonomy, prioritise and better understand what pleasure means to you, start to change your mindset about self-pleasure and masturbation, cultivate personal intimacy and explore your likes and identify dislikes.”
She added: “Masturbation, with and without sex toys is a form of sex. During sex, your body releases oxytocin and endorphins.”
Oxytocin is a hormone known to reduce stress levels and lower blood pressure and cortisol levels.
