Alan Carr’s husband has claimed he got a black eye after punching himself in the face.

Paul Drayton, 46, concerned his followers when he shared a picture of himself with a huge bruise on Instagram earlier this week.

When a fan asked what had happened, he replied: “We had a bad row.”

However, there is no suggestion about who he was referring to.

The photograph was quickly removed from social media and his Chatty Man star husband then gave an interview to The Sun and said he had fallen ‘off the wagon’.

Drayton has now spoken out himself.

He told MailOnline: “I punched myself in the face because I hate myself. There was no fight.

“The Instagram post was just a joke, that’s all.”

He added: “I bet a lot of people are wondering what it’s all about but I’m getting the help I need.”

Carr has also confirmed he is working with his husband to get him better.

He told The Sun: “While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again.

“When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.

“We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better which is our number one priority right now.“

The pair have been together for over 18 years and live in Aldington, Kent.

In 2018, they tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Los Angeles which was officiated by singer Adele.

Confirming the news in an Instagram post at the time, she said: “Seeing as the cats out the bag. I married two of my best friends in January. You know me any excuse to dress up… @chattyman #LoveisLove.”
