Alec Baldwin, who ‘discharged a prop gun that accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured a man’ on the set of Rust, has been accused of ‘ignoring the no.1 gun safety rule’ by a weapons expert.

Bryan Carpenter, of Dark Thirty Film Services, told the New York Post that the 63-year-old should have never ‘pointed the gun at another human being,’ regardless of whether he thought the weapon was safe.

He explained: “Loaded or unloaded, a weapon never gets pointed at another human being.

Listen to what the prop master union has to say about the tragedy in the clip below…

“You never let the muzzle of a weapon cover something you don’t intend to destroy.

“All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.”

Ex-filmmaker Peter Lake has shared similar thoughts on the issue.

“The buck stops with Alec Baldwin on every level,” he told the publication. “It looks very bad for him. At least the captain of the Titanic had the good sense to go down with the ship.”

According to a warrant application at the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the Hollywood star was told it would be safe to use the prop gun just moments before the tragic incident occurred.

A source told The Los Angeles Time that the 42-year-old woman had been behind a camera operator’s monitor at the time.

Court papers allege assistant director Dave Halls also claimed that he was under the impression it was a ‘cold gun’.

Baldwin released a statement on Friday afternoon and said he was ‘fully co-operating’ with the police investigation.
