The reason Amber Heard was ‘awarded $2million in damages‘ despite losing the defamation trial against Johnny Depp has been revealed.
Although the jurors found that the Aquaman star defamed Depp on multiple occasions in her 2018 article for The Washington Post, they also ruled that Depp’s attorney had defamed the actress on one occasion too.
This claim was a part of Heard’s countersuit and concerned a statement Adam Waldman made in the Daily Mail back in 2016.

At the time, he accused the now 36-year-old of making a ‘hoax’ call to the police.
He reportedly inferred that both Heard and her friends had ‘conspired’ to make it look as though their apartment had been involved in some kind of domestic violence incident, before calling law enforcement.
After hearing the verdict, Heard took to Instagram and released a statement about the ruling, claiming that she was ‘heartbroken’.

She wrote: The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.
“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”
“I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”
