Amber Heard fans have taken aim at Helena Bonham Carter after she called out the actress in a controversial interview.

Bonham Carter, 56, and Heard’s ex-partner Johnny Depp, 59, have starred in a number of Tim Burton-directed films together such as Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).

The A-list duo have long been friends and Depp is the godfather of her children, so it’s no surprise that the Harry Potter star has decided to speak out in his defence.

However, that’s led her to face some pretty significant backlash for herself.

Watch as Johnny Depp calls Amber Heard’s accusations ‘heinous’ below…

Speaking to The Times, Bonham Carter alleged that Heard, 36, had ‘got on that pendulum’ of the MeToo movement.

However, the MeToo movement began in 2006, and it rose to prominence in 2017, a year after Heard made her initial allegations amid divorce proceedings.

Bonham Carter’s claims referred to when Aquaman actress Heard claimed that her ex-partner, Depp, had abused her, before losing their extremely high-profile defamation trial earlier this year.

The trial came as the Pirates of the Caribbean star Depp sued Heard for defamation, following which she countersued him.

He argued that she defamed him in her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, although she never directly referred to him by name.

Bonham Carter said: “That’s the problem with these things — that people will jump on the bandwagon because it’s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.”

She also insisted that Depp had been ‘completely vindicated’ and was ‘fine’ after winning the case, which meant Heard owed the Pirates of the Caribbean star £12 million in damages.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bonham Carter also said that author JK Rowling had been ‘hounded’ after being accused of transphobia, and reiterated that she ‘hates’ cancel culture.

Now, Bonham Carter is being hounded herself, with Heard’s fans slamming the Fight Club actress on Twitter, with many pointing out that the MeToo movement’s visibility came after Heard’s allegations.

One person wrote: “Interesting that Helena Bonham Carter said that Amber Heard ‘jumped on the bandwagon’ two years before said bandwagon was even a thing.”

Another said: “Helena Bonham Carter thinks Amber Heard tried to become the ‘poster girl’ for #MeToo, even though Amber’s accusations were in early 2016.

#MeToo didn’t become a thing until 2017 — a whole year after Johnny Depp released a statement declaring Amber never made false accusations.”

While a third added: “I haven’t heard the name Helena Bonham Carter in 20 years. Who cares what she thinks?”

Some, however, staunchly defended Bonham Carter.

One person said: “Amber Heard supporters bashing Helena Bonham Carter on her age and looks and then calling themselves feminist.

“It’s hilarious, what a bunch of posers.”

A second added: “Helena Bonham Carter spitting clean court proven facts, but Heard supporters are so pained you’d think Bellatrix Lestrange cast a Cruciatus curse on them.”

“Amber Heard stans terrorising everyone who is in favour of Johnny Depp – from Rihanna to Jamie Lee Curtis and now Helena Bonham Carter.

“Y’all can be proud of yourselves for acting like total s*** towards other women in the name of feminism.”
