American Woman Confused Why Beans On Toast Is ‘A Thing’ In UK

An American woman has been sharing her views on ‘weird as hell’ British culture on Twitter, and some of her hot takes are hilarious.

Jessica Rose, who is originally from California but has been living in the UK, in Birmingham, for the last 10 years is confused by many things, like why Brits have a ’round system for drinks’ at the pub which she claims is ‘confusing’.

She’s also utterly baffled that we ‘put beans on toast’.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “Please why beans on toast there are so many other lazy foods that are actually good why is this a thing?”

After sharing her observations, Jessica caused quite the stir online. Many felt obliged to defend British cuisine, including eating fish finger sandwiches (who doesn’t love them?!).

One person wrote: “We invented the sandwich, so whatever we put on our sandwiches is canon.”

Opening up to Birmingham Live about why she brought the conversation to Twitter, she said: “I had been chatting to a British friend who is now based in the US about what we found strange in our respective new homes.

“I went ahead and brought my half of the conversation to Twitter because I was quite proud of the phrase ‘sugared houseplants’ and thought a few more people would see it if I put it on Twitter.”

Jessica is a big fan of Birmingham and Britain, despite having a lot to say about the UK’s eating ways. She says it’s both ‘approachable and multicultural’.
