Andrew Morton is ‘baffled’ by Meghan Markle’s claim that she couldn’t get mental health support as a Senior member of the Royal Family.

Speaking on Lorraine, the biographer said he was left with ‘far more questions than answers’ following her Oprah Winfrey interview.

He said: “Yes that was a very sad admission but it left far more questions than answers.

“Especially as Harry is patron of a mental health organisation and his godmother Julia Samuel is a well-known psychotherapist, she’s on speed dial.

“It left me baffled that assertion.”

Lorraine then pointed out that the Queen’s younger sister, Princess Margaret, suffered from mental health issues in the past and claimed she had a similar experience when she reached out for help.

“It’s from a generation where if it’s cold put on a sweater, don’t turn up the heating. It’s make do and mend,” Andrew replied.

“People didn’t talk about mental illness. But having said that Princess Margaret did go for psychological counselling.

“Even the Queen herself, during her ‘annus horribilis’ had somebody in to help with her breathing and relaxing.”

However, the author then went on to say how the Royal Family had actually become accustomed to receiving treatment if deemed necessary.

But unfortunately, mental health is still considered a taboo topic for the elder generations of the family.

Andrew added: “In a funny kind of way, the Royal Family have had a history of going for help from professional bodies for psychological issues they faced.”
