The alleged incidents are said to have happened between October 2020 and August 2021.

The 27-year-old joined the premier league club from Monaco in 2017 for a reported £52m. He was suspended after being charged, pending the investigation.

Mendy was originally held at HMP Altcourse prison in Liverpool before reportedly being transferred to Strangeways prison in Manchester for his personal safety.

He was joined at the hearing by co-accused, Louis Saha Matturie, who has been charged with six counts of rape and sexual assault.
