Bill Gates allegedly ‘sent inappropriate emails to a female employee at Microsoft in 2008,’ according to reports.

The company’s general counsel, Brad Smith, and a fellow executive reportedly organised a meeting to discuss the ‘flirty messages’ the co-founder is believed to have sent to a ‘midlevel’ member of staff, reports The Wall Street Journal.

At the time, Gates is believed to have not denied the exchange. However, no further action was taken as no physical contact took place in the alleged relationship.

Recently, Gates is believed to have slammed the claims, labeling them ‘recycled rumours’.

A statement from his private office read: “These claims are false, recycled rumours from sources who have no direct knowledge, and some in cases have significant conflicts of interest.”

Earlier this year, Gates and his now ex-wife, Melinda, confirmed that they would be separating after 27 years of marriage.

In a statement on Twitter, the former couple claimed the decision came after a ‘great deal of thought and a lot of work’.

It read: “We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.

“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”

According to legal papers obtained by The Sun, Melinda Gates is believed to have been the person who filed for the divorce.

Following the announcement, it was revealed that the pair never signed a prenup, despite the Microsoft co-founder now being worth around $124billion.

Before their separation, Melinda told The Sunday Times that marriage to Gates was ‘incredibly hard’.

“When he was having trouble making the decision about getting married, he was incredibly clear that it was not about me, it was about ‘Can I get the balance right between work and family life?’,” she said.
