A petition has been launched to bring 24-year-old Billy Hood home after he was jailed in Dubai for 25 years when vape liquid containing CBD oil was reportedly found in his car.

The family of the British semi-pro footballer is said to be ‘deeply concerned’ about his wellbeing as he appears to have ‘vanished’ and has not made contact with them or his lawyers since being moved to a jail in Abu Dhabi.

A plea for help on the Change.org page reads: “Our friend Billy is a 24-year-old semi-pro footballer and coach from Kensington [and] has been sentenced to a whopping 25 years after Dubai police discovered four small bottles of CBD oil left in his car by a friend he’d driven to the airport two weeks earlier.

“Billy Hood was forced to confess in Arabic after being pressured by Criminal Investigation Department officers.

“He’s been sentenced for trafficking, selling, and possessing a few grams of CBD in the medieval justice system.”

The petition, which has been signed by over 115,000 people, goes on to claim that Hood ‘volunteered to be searched’ and took a drug test that ‘came back negative’ when he was arrested.

It was concluded by saying: “The family hopes the court exonerates Billy but their desperate hopes to see him by Christmas are bringing daily despair.

“Billy is a great friend to me and many others, please sign this petition to bring Billy back home to his family and friends.”

24-Year-Old British Man Jailed For 25 Years In Dubai Over CBD Oil Has Appeal Delayed

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, who is representing Billy, recently opened up about the ‘shocking’ case.

He said: “Britons genuinely care about Billy Hood.

“People who have read the case can see that Billy had indeed followed the law but unfortunately has wound up charged with crimes he most certainly has not committed.

“He was working as a football coach, training 6 days a week and had his whole life ahead of him.

“It was taken away from him suddenly and through no fault of his own and his whole life appears to be over. It’s just quite shocking.”
