Boris Johnson has admitted he ‘attended a lockdown garden party that was held at Downing Street in May 2020,’ according to reports

The Prime Minister confirmed he was there during PMQs on January 12 and has claimed he will ‘take responsibility’ for his actions.

He said: “I want to apologise.

“I believed implicitly that this was a work event.”

Before the PMQs started, Johnson released a statement reading: “I want to apologise.

“I know that millions of people across this country have made extraordinary sacrifices over the last 18 months.

“I know the anguish they have been through – unable to mourn their relatives, unable to live their lives as they want or to do the things they love.

“I know the rage they feel with me and with the government I lead when they think in Downing Street itself the rules are not being properly followed by the people who make the rules.”

The PM then added that he only went into the garden for a short amount of time, but should have ordered everyone else back inside.

John Bercow Slams Boris Johnson As ‘Habitual Liar’ And ‘Worst’ Prime Minister ‘By A Country Mile’

Earlier the same day, the deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner urged him to ‘come clean’.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, she said: “Boris Johnson has to account for his actions. The ministerial code is very clear that if he’s misled parliament and not abided by that code, then he should go.

“The frustration for me is that conservative MPs have been out on the airwaves condemning the Prime Ministers and saying he does need to come clean on his actions, but he is being propped up by his conservative MPs at the moment and he’s been proven not fit to govern.

“The British public are now thinking that he’s not the right Prime Minister for this country.”
