Boris Johnson has refused to deny claims there was a Christmas party held at 10 Downing Street during lockdown last year.
When challenged by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer during Wednesday’s Prime Minister’s Questions, the 57-year-old insisted ‘all guidance was followed completely’.
Starmer said: “The Prime Minister doesn’t deny there was a Downing Street Christmas party last year … He says no rules were broken. Both of those things can’t be true. He’s taking the British public for fools.”

He added: “Does the prime minister really believe that while the country was banned from seeing loved ones at Christmas last year, it was fine for him and his friend to throw a boozy party at Downing Street?”
Earlier this week, the Daily Mirror claimed Downing Street held a festive celebration in the days before Christmas, while London was under tier 3 restrictions, which involved 40 or 50 guests.
Apparently, a source said it was a ‘Covid nightmare’.
Many people have now taken to Twitter to blast the Prime Minister, using the hashtag #JohnsonOut.
One wrote: “The whole of UK knows he’s lying. #JohnsonOut.”
Another penned: “Boris Johnson had a guest to stay last Christmas – against the government’s rules.
“Now it’s come out that he also had an office party in number 10 – against government rules.
“During this period, the rest of us abided by the rules and distanced and many lost relatives and friends during this time.
“This is above party politics. This matters.
“It’s not right that Johnson treats the British public with utter contempt. #JohnsonOut.”
A third wrote: “You might wonder why all the people went to the party when they knew the official advice was not to have a party. Obviously, they did not think rules apply to them as they are Tories. #ToriesUnfitToGovern #JohnsonOut.”
