Boris Johnson reportedly ‘won’t take in a Ukrainian refugee‘ due to the ‘unique circumstances’ at No 10.

According to The Independent, a Downing Street spokesperson has said it would be difficult for the Prime Minister to welcome a refugee into his home.

The representative reportedly stated: “There are specific challenges around the security of having someone in No 10.

“Various ministers have been asked about this and it will come down to individual circumstances.

“It’s a significant commitment and it will depend on individual circumstances and is a matter for them.”

When the spokesperson was then asked whether this was a definite no, the rep reportedly added: “I think for security reasons you would expect we’d be unable to facilitate that in No 10.”

Last week, the PM appeared on Sky News and announced that the British public can ‘welcome refugees into their homes’ under new developments.

He said: “On Monday, you’ll get from the Levelling Up Secretary, you’ll get the programme that will allow people to come in, so [if] people want to welcome [refugees] into their own homes, they can do so.”

Previously, Johnson was questioned on what the refugee policy would be when it came to the Ukraine crisis.

At the Prime Minister’s Questions, he reportedly commented: “This government has a proud, proud record. We’ve done more to resettle vulnerable people than any other European country since 2015.”

According to UN figures, over 2.8million people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded the country. It’s believed that the UK and Europe may have to welcome over 15million refugees if Vladimir Putin persists with the attacks.
