Britney Spears has taken to Instagram to explain her comments about Christina Aguilera after she was accused of ‘fat-shaming’ the singer.

The 40-year-old pop star defended her post by saying she was ‘inspired’ by the ‘Dirrty’ singer:By no means was I being critical of Christina’s beautiful body, it is what it is!!!

“I flew to see her show once and the main thing I noticed was the difference of our people on stage!!!

“By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post!!! I was inspired by her show and she is a beautiful woman of power.”

Spears continued in her post: “What I posted is a projection of the insecurities I deal with all the time as a result of how my parents and the media have treated me.

“I would never intentionally body shame anybody because I know what it feels like… I struggle with this because of how I feel about myself, not because I hate how anybody looks.

“I feel like my family knew I was insecure and people were trying to purposefully feed into this insecurity by not letting me have a choice in the people who were on stage with me.

“I appreciate you all being understanding with me as I figure out this new life I’m living!!!”

In her original post on September 12, the Toxic singer shared a quote by comedian Rodney Dangerfield where it said: “I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.”

Spears then put in the caption: “I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small.”

Many people expressed their disappointment at the singer’s remarks. While Aguilera unfollowed the popstar on Instagram.

What Britney Spears went through is not okay, but that does not justify her bullying and fat-shaming people on her Instagram. Utterly disappointed,” one fan responded.

One replied: “For me, it wasn’t so much what you said, it was the meme you posted with it.”

“Ehhhhhh nope, sorry. The quote is fat-shaming, and so are the comments regarding Christina’s dancers. Love you to death, but just delete it and apologize instead of trying to talk your way out of it,” another fan replied.

Fans of Spears have now praised the star for clarifying her comments.

One person replied: “Don’t worry, Britney. Your true fans know you didn’t mean any harm in that post.”

Another user commented: “ I understand, you’ve been through so much. Sometimes we lash out in the wrong way. Knowing this and admitting to it, so soon after everything you’ve been through is so kind. You’re a sweet soul.”

A third account said: “People just love to interpret things. We knew what you meant.”
