Britney Spears’ father has agreed to step down as her conservator, according to reports.
Legal documents obtained by TMZ state that the 69-year-old, who has controlled the singer’s finances and personal life since 2008, wants an ‘orderly transition’ to a new conservator.
According to the publication, the documents say he believes he is the ‘unremitting target of unjustified attacks’ and ‘he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests’.

The documents add: “So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.
“Regardless of his formal title, Mr Spears will always be Ms Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests.”
Britney Spears’ lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, has now apparently released a statement to TMZ.
According to the publication, it reads: “We are pleased but not necessarily surprised that Mr Spears and his lawyer finally recognise that he must be removed. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms Spears and others.
“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr Spears’s sworn deposition in the near future. In the interim, rather than making false accusations and taking cheap shots at his own daughter, Mr Spears should step aside immediately.”
Britney sent shockwaves through the showbiz world when she labelled her father’s treatment of her ‘abuse’ at a recent hearing.
Addressing the court in a 23-minute speech, she said: “I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive… I’ve told the whole world [that] I’m okay and I’m happy. It’s a lie.
“I thought just maybe [if] I said that enough, I might become happy because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. You know, ‘fake it till you make it?’
“But now I’m telling you the truth, okay? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day, and the reason I’m telling you this is because I don’t think the state of California can have all this written in the court documents from the time I showed up and do absolutely nothing.”
She added: “My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail.”
