Brooklyn Beckham, who was recently ‘dropped from his Superdry contract‘, is being trolled on social media after claiming that he ‘invented a new thing’.

The 23-year-old made the comment in an interview with Variety when chatting about him and his new wife, Nicola Peltz, having double-barrelled surnames after tying the knot.

He told the publication: “We had this idea – we kind of combined our last names.

“I was just like, oh, we could start a new thing, and it’ll be so cool to have our own kids and have little Peltz-Beckhams running around.”

People are now taking to Twitter and mocking the footballer’s son for making the comment.

One user tweeted: “Brooklyn Beckham introducing double barrel surnames to the world is akin to Alexandra Burke bringing ‘elephant in the room’ to the UK.”

A second simply said: “Oh dear…”

“As if I’ve not had a double barrel surname for the last 31 years,” a third remarked.

Others have taken to the social media platform and defended Beckham, arguing that he might have meant something else.

“Am I the only one who thinks that he meant that combining both their surnames would be a new thing to create a legacy for their children? Instead of just Beckham,” one commented.

Another added: “People are being purposely obtuse. Obviously, he meant creating their new family name and not introducing the concept.”

When it was revealed that Beckham had changed his surname following the wedding, many fans were left convinced Victoria Beckham wasn’t happy about it.

She captioned a photo of her and David on the special day: “Proud mum and dad. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Beckham.”
