Gareth Lewis, the owner of Ponty Butchers, told It’s Gone Viral he posted the tongue-in-cheek deal on Facebook and Twitter after watching the series with his partner.

The award-winning family butchers, based in Swansea in Wales, listed an offer where customers could get beef, chicken, steak, sausage, bacon and mince for just £26.99.

The post is captioned: “A deal so good it would make Jeffrey Dahmer empty his freezer!”

Netflix’s true crime series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story propelled the killer into the spotlight once again.

The show details how Dahmer killed, dismembered – and in some cases ate – 17 men and boys between 1978 to 1991.

Dahmer, who was nicknamed the Milwaukee Cannibal, had an apartment littered with human remains and several heads were discovered in his refrigerator and freezer.

Lewis told IGV he didn’t intend to offend anyone or glorify Dahmer with his offer – and said that the advert had been successful.

He explained: “There wasn’t really any thought behind the post.

“I’d run the advert the previous week and a few people had messaged me asking if the deal was still running.

“Me and my partner had just started watching the series the night before so I decided to add the Jeffrey Dahmer bit in.

“I was hoping it would make the post stand out a bit more and it seems to have done the trick.

“The vast majority of people have been very positive about the post, sharing it with captions tagging family and friends and all that, which I guess was the point of it.

“Obviously, you get the odd few who like to say they’re offended just to be offended.

“It’s clearly not meant in a way that glorifies what a serial killer has done.”

The advert, described as ‘pure brilliance’ by one Twitter user, has seen Lewis receive some stern criticism online, but he remains undeterred.

He told IGV: “I have had a few inbox messages saying this that and the other, but I’m an 18-stone ginger Welsh bloke, so as you can imagine I’ve been called these things for years… and a lot worse.

“We are a busy shop in the Swansea Valley and have some amazing customers who travel throughout South Wales to come to us weekly, from the Rhondda to down west in Cardigan.

“As you can imagine, there’s been quite a few of these packs sold this week. Which is obviously great for the shop, but also it’s a good deal for the customer. So we’re both onto a winner.”

Ponty Butchers boasts almost entirely five-star reviews on Google.

A Twitter user, who said they were ‘absolutely gone’ after seeing the original Facebook post, has racked up more than 7,000 likes at the time of writing.

Responding to the deal, one person wrote: “That is both bad and funny at the same time.”

This is not the only trending topic Ponty Butchers have used to promote their meat deals in recent times.

The firm poked fun at This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield after they were falsely accused of jumping the queue to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state.

Alongside a mocked-up meaty Spin The Wheel – which is a regular segment on This MorningPonty Butchers quipped: “We’ve asked our queue jumping mate Phil to spin the wheel to see what we have on offer this weekend!”
