Adult Star Explains How New P*** Law Will Affect Viewers
An adult star has explained the huge impact new film laws will have on viewers.
A well-known figure in the U.K. adult entertainment industry has spoken out in support of the country’s new online safety regulations, but also warned of significant drawbacks that affect performers like herself.
Jess West, a prominent adult performer with over 15 years in the industry, has welcomed the upcoming law requiring age verification for viewers of explicit online content.
The law, which comes into effect on July 25, mandates that adult websites, search engines, and social media platforms must implement ‘highly effective age assurance technology’ to ensure minors are not exposed to adult material.
To comply, users will be required to verify their age using official identification.

West told the Daily Star: “I am all for the fact that obviously children and minors shouldn’t be seeing our p***.”
However, she was quick to point out the unintended consequences of the new policy, particularly when it comes to social media platforms.
According to West, many adult content creators are being subjected to ‘shadow banning’ – a practice where a user’s content becomes less visible to others without any official notification.
She explained: “It’s just difficult because we seem to get shadow banned and pushed aside a lot.”
Platforms like Instagram and TikTok, she said, are particularly aggressive in limiting the visibility of adult workers, even when their content complies with the rules.
“Even the adult versions of all this stuff – like even X – now shadow bans us,” she added. “It’s really tough for us to advertise ourselves because how do we go about it when we’re not allowed to?”

Shadow banning can be especially detrimental to independent adult performers, many of whom rely on social media to market their work and connect with fans.
Though the accounts remain active, visibility is greatly reduced, affecting traffic, income, and reach.
West also noted that increasingly strict content guidelines mean performers are being censored for even relatively tame posts.
“We’re not allowed to show ourselves, you know, even in lingerie and stuff now – it’s getting harder and harder,” she said.
Despite her support for protecting minors, West emphasized the dilemma the new rules create.
“Loads of people lost their Instagrams. It’s just difficult for us to advertise ourselves really… I am all for [the new rules], but then at the same time how do we even advertise ourselves so that people can see us if everything is behind paywalls?”
